Weight loss without fat shaming?

Hi. I have been struggling with weight issues for my whole life. My parents put me on a diet when I was ten. In reality I didn't really have a weight problem until my 20's and I wasn't really obese until my 30's. I look back on a lot of my pictures and I realize I wasn't really that overweight. But, I thought I was. Other people made me feel like I was. Over the years, I have become a person who hated my body. I hated it for being bigger than it was supposed to be. The more I hated it, the more I dieted. The more I dieted, the more I was ashamed. And ironically, the more weight I gained. To the point where I stopped being active because I was embarrassed.

I don't want to do that anymore.

I have noticed that a lot of dieting and weight loss talk is focused on hating the fat, hating the way we look, and being ashamed that we "ever got this way." I am wondering if there is any one else who thinks that there is a way to work on health and exercise without this fat shaming?

I have academic friends (30s to 40s) who are obese per their BMI's (in the body mass index range for obese) and they still make an effort to get in scheduled exercise weekly and they also try to improve their diets by making minor tweaks. and these ladies do not fat shame.

you don't have to fat shame to make health and exercise a priority. just stay away from corporate mass media. I believe it is dominate pop culture that fat shames, so explore alternative media. perhaps look to stuff outside the mainstream.

perhaps feminist wellness groups/blogs (sites/magazines) might particularly resonate for you. among all the other great sites out there, like PEERtrainer.

I hope you find peace along your health and wellness journey.

body positive

Kris Carr is really big on self love, check out her site: http://kriscarr.com

Also, Dr. Sara Gottfried (she offers the Hormone Reset program here on PEERtrainer) she comes across with a slight hippie vibe - perhaps because she is also a yoga teacher? or maybe it is her calm voice and gentle disposition. check out some of her work on YouTube, or better yet, buy her new book, "The Hormone Cure"

Donna Gates (The Body Ecology Diet) might be worth investigating: http://bodyecology.com

its all about making little chnages and loving yourself enough to chnage.. dont let what others think bother you. its what you think of yourself that matters.

you are a beautiful strong person.. keep telling yourself that.. self paositive talk.. i am worthy. i am special.. i can do anything i set my mind to..

find things about your body you like make a list. you will see you appreciate yourself more than you think you do

these are some thing i do and plan to do with my coaching clients. im studying to be a health coach.
