What do I have for Christmas dinner?

What can I make that's healthy but also tastes good and still feels like christmas? Diet food is not going to go over well in this family. Anyone?

Turkey or Ham?
ROASTED VEGETABLES!!
Mixed greens "Winter Salad"
Skip the mashed potatoes... seriously, they never taste good anyway. I think everyone just eats them out of habit. Just like pumpkin pie. If you are going to cheat, make it count with something delicious that you love. I'm positive mashed potatoes will be served at the dinners I attend. I'm gonna skip it, and indulge in a glass of wine instead. No bread either, it makes my tummy expand. No thanks!!

Drink a glass of water before and after every cocktail/wine.
Skip the finger foods too... eat before you attend parties and keep one hand occupied with a darling clutch purse. better to have hands occupied with purse in one hand and a sparkling water in the other than balancing a plate of finger foods and a cocktail. Wear skinny clothes with a belted waist/belt so it is impossible to overeat, you want your clothes to feel tight if you slip and overindulge. NO STRETCHY YOGA PANTS!!

Make a plan. And then make a plan B.

OP - I know you are asking about Christmas dinner, but this seemed to help me, and is on a related subject. I had to put some distance (a little over a month without trigger foods) for this to apply to me. I hope this helps you.

Sabotaging Thought: It’s better to just not have any treats during the holiday season.

Response: I need to get away from all-or-nothing thinking and remember to look for the middle ground. Cutting out all treats never works because I eventually end up eating them, and then usually go overboard. While it may not be reasonable to have holiday treats every day, it’s important to plan to have a polite 3-bite amount during the holiday season.

paraphrased from Beck's 'Daily Diet Solutions' weight loss tip

-----

polite 3-bite - using the kind of bite you would take if being filmed for national television, not the kind of bite you'd take in your livingroom.

I love the advice of no stretchy yoga pants. That always gets me. I can gain up to 5 pounds when I wear yoga pants every day for a week.

I would suggest making the usual and lots of veggies. Then fill your plate with the veggies and small portions of the other things that you really like. And when you're satisfied... stop.

We did the 'healthy' holiday feast once and it sucked! I hated it! I LOVE mashed potatoes. I love pie. I love gravy. I love it all and I decided I'm cooking it all my way - the way we like it. And I rationalize this because we do not eat like this the rest of the year! I do this 2x a year - Thanksgiving and Christmas. I have maybe 4 days total of leftovers and then that's it. The rest of the year we're 'good.' Let me have my 5 days a year! ;)

OP: How did Christmas go?

Original Poster - how did your Christmas dinner turn out?

I love the above comment of doing it their way, only Thanksgiving and Christmas badness. Clean eating the rest of the year. If this works for you, go for it! Still in moderation, not binging and eating till you hurt, of course.

I indulged at Thanksgiving, and I actually lost weight that week, but I also felt seriously ill that night. Seems even if I want total badness now, I get sick. I have to pace my cheat foods. I can't eat like I use to, my body is becoming more unforgiving each passing year. It sucks.
