I have GERD that has NOT progressed to a hiatal hernia. Yours has progressed (without treatment?) and is more serious. If you have been taking Zantac that might be the cause of diarrhea, but you should ask your physician about that.
1. yes
2,3,4 no
5 yes
I also lose my voice frequently as a result of GERD.
6 yes
7-10 no

Channing, if your doctor can't help you get hold of this problem you are going to end up with esophageal cancer. Belching is the least of it.
I don't know what will work once you have the hiatal hernia -- hopefully your doctor will give you some options. I am following a restrictive (and tasteless) diet that you can find in the book "Dropping Acid." The best thing I can say for it is that it works for me.

12:08 here -- to change my answer to question #7, oh yes, I know that eventually happens, my father had GERD for many years before he got a hiatal hernia like you have.
