Beano
Can someone tell me more about this? How does it work? *Does* it work? I feel like the gassiest girl on earth sometimes.

If the has is coupled with stomach pains, try eliminating lactose from your diet. That was the hidden culprit for me. If the pains are only gas pains and not digesting pains, try a different form of fiber. Do you eat a lot of cabbage, broccoli, etc? I take flax instead of the harsher things like Metamucil etc.
I try to avoid Beano and the like because whenever something like acid, gas, and the like come up... they are a message from the body that something you are putting in isn't producing great output! Antacids, pepto, beano etc. are typically cover-ups of the symptoms not eliminating the problem.
But heck, sometimes I can't avoid eating that yummy quesadilla! So, in that case I take a homeopathic remedy like Carbo-veg (charcoal to absorb the acids) or have more yogurt with good bacteria in it to help my tummy digest better.

I just want to repeat what the last poster said about eliminating lactose. I've had to learn to accept that I'm "lactose intolerant" and try to reduce my cheese/milk intake. I LOVE that stuff but it makes me really gassy and miserable so it's not worth it. For a LONG time I tried to ignore the correlation but now that I workout so much at the gym I have to stay in tune with my dairy intake. (I don't want to be gassy there!)

Regarding lactose intolerant I find that I can't drink milk and have to stay away from foods with un-cooked cream or milk in them unless I have some yogurt prior to eating them.
Cheeses tend to be okay, unless they have a lot of cream. The yogurt cultures apparently break down the lactose enough not to cause me gassiness and diarrhea.... (sorry if TMI).
Beano gives me hives (I'm allergic to molds).
If you get gassiness from too much fiber, you may not be chewing your food enough-- if you tend to gulp down things, then the saliva in your mouth doesn't have a chance to start the digestive process properly and once those grains or veggies get into your intestines, you can get very gassy.
Think about beer-- it's made with grains and gets carbonated from the fermentation... well, if you aren't chewing your grains properly, then by the time they get to your digestive tract, what do you think happens? You got it--GAS from the fermentation process!

I believe Beano contains an enzyme not produced by the body that can help process some of the undigestable components of gas causing foods. I have not tried it because I am allergic to the 'cillin family, like penicillin (ok, I don't know how to spell it) and related antibiotics, and if you have that allergy if would not try it. But many people love this stuff!
