NO JUNK CHALLENGE
I posted this on FB, but for those that don't have a FB page I wanted to invite you to join me in this challenge.
for those that don't know me my name is lynneta on PT. I started my journey at 370 pounds.... I broke my 200 pound released mark, putting me at 169, but since than had some medical complications which has put me back up 8 pounds.. putting me at last weigh in at 177..
well I have boycoted the scale for two months.. in that time I will concentrate on good food choices and upping my exercise.. especially my running since I have committed to two HM in Oct within 2 weeks of each other, but anyway I am on the last leg of my journey 42 pounds from goal.. I am looking to hit that by Oct 2.. that's very doable I think.. with PT and my Family there for support and the occasional kick in the ass when needed I know I can do it.
. I am so grateful for PT for all you do... you rock my world.. you have created such an amazing place... anyway I am digressing from why I started this lengthy post which I apologize for I just wanted to give some back ground to those that don't know me. lately I have been eating alot of junk.. sour candy , bites of doughnuts, and so on.. well that STOPS now.. excuses or results.. I cant have both..
so I am starting a NO junk challenge.. the only sweet I will allow myself is dark choc in moderation.. so I am inviting all of YOU to join me.. modify this challenge to your needs. but step up.. if you have been going awhile kick it up a bit .. if your just getting started this will help jump start things..
I have goals and damn I will make them.. I am going to do everything humanly possible to reach them by oct.. I will continue to climb my mountain until I reach them.. giving up and self sabotaging is not a option... I am going to pull as many of you with me as will join me.. some that I know I will pull kicking and screaming if I have to.. but come on guys.. isnt it time to finish what we started.. I know its time for me too.. its been long enough! I want to soar.. I deserve to be the person I was meant to be and so do YOU...only you can do this for you.. noone else can do this for you.. so join me and lets finish our goals.. they are within reach.. decide.. commit, and you will succeed. I am ready are you?? join me??

Great idea!
hey, lynetta - great idea! I'm in! Is there a group or team for that, or should we just boost each other here? I'm with PT since October last year, lost 15kg so far and am now struggeling with the last 5kg to lose until my marriage in September. All in all I'm doing fine, but I have these moments where I fall down and I'm afraid that prevents me from reaching my goal. So I will commit to follow the ETL philosophy and exercise every day at home plus 3-4 times a week at the gym.
Hooray, we'll make it!!!
cheers, Sonja (oh-lilian)
Friday, June 11, 2010, 5:05 AM
lynetta I am so proud of you an dmotivated all in the same...thanks for continuing to share I am not a FB particpant so I am glad you reached out here...I too am in I have my final 12 lbs to lose and am gonna do it I am on a good role here and balancing it all, I will join the good fight and continue to be mindfully eating but I too eat choc to get through the "I need some crap food moments" Good luck and please keeps us posted
Friday, June 11, 2010, 9:09 PM
hey Sonja and pp welcome!!!
I didnt make a team.. I have just been welcoming and posting here... I think this is good so others can keep up with it..
I started a thread last year where you could brag and I checked it everyday.. I need to bump it so my no junk challengers can strut their stuff..
well lets just say I am doing AWESOME... I had my nephews in for the week.. we went to ALL the parks.. 3 disney parks and universal and islands... I didn't touch a funnel cake, churro, cotton candy, ice cream, I did have three bites of My oldest nephews birthday cake AFTER the parks. THAT was hard.. I sat and watched them eat.. the popcorn wafting through the parks smelled so good, but I remembered my NO junk challenge..
I also got in a great workout last night..
how are the rest of you doing? lets keep going!!
we are strong, proud and fierce.. nothing is impossible unless we allow it to be.

just starting
Hi, I am just starting, and need support. I have to loose over 110 lbs. I have not really set a final goal yet. I have started slow, like making some changes in my life. Two months ago I gave up diet sodas, and this week I quit smoking. I am also trying to add more veggies into my diet. could really use a good group and more advise on how to loose weight in a family that won't give up processed food. The junk food challenge is something I could use.
Saturday, June 12, 2010, 12:15 PM
hey 12:15... welcome.. I hear you on processed foods in family.. I just gave the rest of the birthday ice cream cake to my mom and dad.. they are like don't you want any.. I am like no thanks..I had my three bites on his day..
cutting out sodas.. try upping your water .. if you don;t like water try water with lemon.. way to go on quitting smoking!!
upping your fruits and veg is key in eating healthy.. I also up my greens. spinach, kale, you name it.. .. beans and whole grains like brown rice will keep you full longer..
remember this is about life changes...
EXERCISE- find something you enjoy, but move!
baby steps= big goals..
your making a change and that's what matters..
break that 110 pounds down into smaller goals.. work on five pound increments at a time.. its less daunting that way I know..
as for your family you have to realize they wont change.. so its up to you to make the right choices.. good or bad own them.. when you slip do a uturn and get back on track.. your here and doing this and thats what matters..
your not alone.. were all here right beside you..
again everyone... if you can conceive it you can achieve it. believe in yourself.

I got off track again :-/
hi lynetta and all there, hope you are all doing better than me.
The last 3 days were just bad bad bad eating wise. :-/ I came into that downward spiral again of not enough sleep, alcohol, sugar, white flour and no workout. I even worked from home today, cause I couldn't motivate myself to go to work. It's really horrible, it's like a depression greeping up. Do you also know such days? I feel like an addict these days, not able to control my actions anymore when I'm under that spell. It got so worse that I ended up crying on my fiancée's shoulder earlier this evening. He was very understanding and that took so much preasure from me.
Now we figured out the following plan:
- I will completely return to ETL: no alcohol, no sugar, no white flour and other crap
- I will go to work each day, no hiding at home
- when he notices that the flat is untidy (clear thing for me getting strange), I don't want to go to work or workout and want to eat unhealthy stuff, he'll help me to get over it
- I wrote two inspiring notes to put on the mirror and on the fridge (both where I'm looking at first thing in the morning) to put me in a good mood. Cause the last few days I was so depressed when waking up. Do you also know such moments? Any tips to cope with that?
So I still feel bad about my bad behavior and what's even worse: I gained some weight (up at 72kg again). :-/ Sorry, for all the whining today, it'll get better - I promise!
How was your weekend? Any success stories to balance mine? ;-)
love, Sonja

Dave - you are not alone.
Okay - I am really struggling right now. I am having an amazingly strong craving for a soft serve frozen yogurt. It won't go away. I have been thinking about it for over a week now. And tonight it is so strong. I think I should just go get one and be done with it. Please don't think poorly of me.

Monday, June 14, 2010, 9:51 PM
i agree cyleste. we do these things to make our lives better (diet, workout, eliminate junk...) once they start to take over our lives in an unhealthy, obsessive way, they no longer serve to benefit us. i think an occasional treat is ok when you are otherwise working so hard toward a goal! no negative judgement here.
Tuesday, June 15, 2010, 12:01 PM
sonja... were human slips and slides happen... don't beat yourself up.. just make the next choice a good one.. do a UTURN now.. not three days from now..weight fluctuates.. you will take it off.
planning is key for me and logging and commenting with my groups and teams.. lean on us thats what were here for..
ETL is a great plan.. way to go on making a MAP.. now its time to stick to it.
cyleste I don't think poorly of you, but you have to learn to control food and not let it control you.. if you choose to have it its one thing, but having it because your craving it and can't control it thats another..
a great book if you havent read it yet is The beck diet solution... its cognitive behavior therapy.. helps us change our mindset with food.
you own yoru choices . remeber that..
lets keep going guys.. never give up!!

hi there,
thanks so much for all your nice comments, you help me so much!!!
I'm back on track since yesterday and feel so much better already. A bit tired today, but a lot better! :-)
I'm so glad to have all of you at PT and that we are on this journey together - it really gives me a boost each morning to come here and log and chat!
How are you all doing with the no junk challenge??
Have a great day! Sonja (oh-lilian)

I want in!
Hey y'all!!! I'm a huge, huge snacker and I can pig out on crap food all day long! I've decided to try and give up the junk food and so far I'm on Day 4!!! I feel really great about it and I'm so excited to see that there are other people out there struggling with this too! Do y'all mind if I join in??? This is totally what I need to stay on track to meet my goals. I too am aiming for October as that's when my husband takes R&R from Afghanistan. I love how encourgaging everyone is, so can I please, please join in???

Thursday, June 17, 2010, 8:54 AM
What a great conversation here!
First of all, I want to say greetings to Lynetta and I LOVE that you are doing your own No junk food purge by doing service here. You have a wealth of wisdom and experience AND we all go through rough stretches. You had a toughie with your health. It is so great to get some company while you hit your re-set buttons. Service really counts when you need your boost to get going again. YAY you!!! You will work through this. Ultimate positive change is all about LEARNING. There is no perfection in any of this.
So I am joining up today by saying NO JUNK today. Clean eating all the way.
Best to you all. H2
Thursday, June 17, 2010, 12:06 PM
welcome ash!! congrats on day 4.. thats awesome... oct is a long time.. set your mind and you can accomplish a lot and your husband will come home to one HOT smokin wife.. btw tell him I said thanks for his service to our country..
hey H2! good to have you here.. thanks for the sweet words and encouragement. it means a lot... its not been easy, but anything worth doing rarely ever is, but it is worth it.. I am definately recharged..
I am doing the fat smash detox phase right now.. I haven't had junk for days now.. and my body loves it.. still have to watch the raw foods, but I am working things through.
sonja.. I am so glad your back on track.. the support at PTis amazing.. this place is family to me.. so lets all keep at it..
today starts the weekend.. I know some have trouble spots on the weekends, but its just another couple days.. why treat it different so finish strong.
just because its weekend.. doesn't mean it has to be a WEAK end.. make it a Strong end..
if you can conceive it . you can achieve it.. so grab it !

Lived up to NO JUNK TODAY pledge yesterday. Day one. Now for a repeat.
Good going everyone!
Hi back Lynneta (sorry for the spelling before) and yay you!! I know you will be careful to get your nutritional needs met. There is a way and it sounds like you are working to make it happen. Stop and pay attention if your body starts to complain.... but it sounds like that is what you are doing.
I love these community "get over the hump" posts. Sometimes all it takes is a short rally to get going again. H2
Friday, June 18, 2010, 10:32 AM
Every Friday my grandmother and I make cookies to send to my husband. I normally eat about 6 cookies while I'm over there. I had to try one as it was a new recipe that we created and wanted to make sure that it was at least decent. I tasted half of a cookie and that was it!!! That still counts, right??? I feel pretty good about it considering I wanted to eat 10 of them so I'm going to say it does =)
Good going, H2! The first couple of days are the toughest so make sure to pat yourself on the back because this isn't easy!
Thanks for the kind words Lynnetta!!!
I'm a little nervous about the weekend coming up as that's when I'm at my worst with eating. Off of my normal schedule, ya know. However, knowing that y'all are gonna give it your best shot makes me want to. So how about we kick this weekend's ass and go through it strong!!! No point in giving in now! We're stronger, better than that!
Friday, June 18, 2010, 6:01 PM
way to go h2!! no worries on my name... call me lynn if you like.. all my family does on PT.
I love these kind of posts.. I thought of making it a team challenge, but I like the openess and the anonymous of the forums here so people can feel comfortable sharing.
I started another one last year that people could brag on their accomplishments.. weight related or not.
ash a half cookie is a BIG accomplishment in fact its something I and a lot of others do. given that the cookie was a Normal size cookie a half cookie = about 3 bites.. I follow the 3 bite rule a lot with desserts. so way to go girl keep it up!!
I agree lets kick this weekends ass on its ear!!
I just got back from the gym. did a mile on the TM.. it felt great.. need to work up gaining distance.. I love running..
the NO junk challenge is going great! the fat smash detox is going well.
lets keep going!

Day 2 clean eating! Now I am off to work!
Best to you all!'

Saturday, June 19, 2010, 6:48 AM
A whole flippin mile, Lynn?!?!? Way to go!!! I've started walking and adding running intervals into it. I take my dog with me as it adds some fun to it.
The cookie was a normal sized cookie and I only took one bite. It wasn't one of those cake sized cookies =) I've heard about the 3 bite rule. Does it actually work? I'm afraid that after 3 bites of anything tasty that I'll want to devour the whole thing.
H2!!! 2 freakin days!!!!!!!! It takes about 3-5 days for sugar to leave your body so you're on Day 3 now! You're doing such an awesome job considering for me the toughest days were the first couple.
What an awesome team! I like that it isn't a literal challenge as it allows me to feel that I'm doing this with support and not because I have to. We are kicking junk food just because and it's so wonderful that we can talk about it with other people experiencing the same thing. I don't know about anyone else, but talking with y'all has really been helping me to stay on track so thanks so much!!!! Good luck today!!!
Saturday, June 19, 2010, 8:04 AM
Oh yeah, that comment above is from Ashley. I keep forgetting the name part. Guess I get too excited =)
Saturday, June 19, 2010, 8:05 AM
way to go H2.. keep it up!!!!
ash...I use the 3 bite rule ALOT.. my nephews were just in and i 3 bites of his Birthday cake.. it does work.. after three bites I find I am mindlessly eating anyway. 3 bites is enough to enjoy anything, desserts, rolls, you name it.. you just have to set your mind to it..
yes I am working on my running .. the 2 Halfs in oct will be on me before I know it.. so I have to stay busy. today is hill sprints
Im glad the challenge is helping you so much!!
lets keep at it..
*lynneta*
Saturday, June 19, 2010, 3:12 PM
There's research to back up the 3 bite rule, too. Apparently, after the third bite the pleasure factor decreases exponentially. We may keep eating to recreate the pleasure of those initial bites, but it will never come! When I take the time to slow down and actually savor those three bites - it's more than enough :)
Saturday, June 19, 2010, 3:21 PM
Wow -- THIS is the inspiration I was looking for here and haven't found until now. Since I joined last month I've been in 7 different groups of people who have totally ignored me (except for one person in one of the groups). No matter what kind of comment I made -- introducing myself, asking for support, or offering it -- I was totally ignored, like I was invisible. Except for that one person, who has commented to me twice. The other comments between the other group members were not very encouraging as they were all venting and not even supporting each other. Just basically complaining about all sorts of things in addition to diet and exercise.
So when I saw this, I was so happy that the positivity really does exist here. Thank you Lynneta and everybody else who has provided positive encouragement on this post. I no longer feel alone among the hundreds of people on this website.
How do I join the FB thing?

Inspiration
hey there,
I hope you are all doing fine and still following the NO JUNK challenge, even though it's weekend!
I have a nice quote for y'all today, which I'll have to take very serious today, cause I'm a bit of a madman sometimes when it comes to beating me up. ;-)
* * *
Just for today, I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle my whole life problem at once. (Narcotics Anonymus)

Have a nice Sunday y'all and stay strong!
Love, Sonja (oh-lilian)
Sunday, June 20, 2010, 3:35 AM
3:21.. thats very interesting about the three bite rule. I agree three bites is enough for me . after that its just mindlessly eating because its there.
3:42.. I am so glad you joined us.. PT has some great people you just have to keep looking around to find a fit for you as far as teams and groups go.. I know I have some amazing ones. I am going to bump my other thread.. its a place you can share your accomplishments as well and read others to be inspired. this place is amazing full of wonderful support so don't give up on it. your not alone.. were right here beside you!
well I originally stated I was 177.. well that was wrong I was 183 when I started this no junk challenge.. I finally weighed myself about 8 days ago .. I started the fat smash so I can tell its coming down.. will weigh in a couple days.just a hurdle to overcome..I wont let anything stop me .. its just a number.. it does not define who I am and I can change it.
here is the link to the FB page
sonja.. I love that quote thank you.. I am still rocking the No Junk challenge... weekends are not a excuse to go nuts.
lets keep going guys.. we can do this.

So far I've been doing ok considering it's the weekend. I have noticed that I ate more yesterday - because I wasn't doing anything - but it was fruit and veggies so I felt it was better than cookies and candy. I'm not exactly proud of the way I ate yesterday, but I don't feel too crazy guilty about it since it wasn't really junk that I was eating. I need to keep busy though instead of allowing myself the opportunity to mindlessly snack.
What's "fat smash"? Is it a diet plan?
Well, we're over half way through the weekend so no quitting now! I will keep y'all in mind today. Remembering that there are other people out there trying to avoid junk food and making efforts to eat better encourages me, so thanks!
H2...haven't heard from you in a bit. Hope you're still goin strong as I'm sure you are =)
Sunday, June 20, 2010, 10:29 AM
4 good days on the clean eating challenge! Yay! The last two were really demanding work days. I packed in all my meals and snacks. I usually do this but I made the meals a little more special. Took a cooler, nice napkins, even a favorite tea cup. Made it easy!
I am tired!! (from work) but good.
Hope you all had a good weekend! H2

greens while travelling?
hi there,
so great and inspiring to read all your posts! Great what everybody is doing to keep on track and eliminate junk!
Packing things for work is always good. I go to the cantine during my lunch break, but I always pack a snack for the afternoon.
Today I have a question for your ladies: I will be on vacation from Saturday on for 2 weeks. We are going sailing and it won't be possible to take frozen spinach with me, cause there is no freezer. Do you have any ideas what I could eat instead to fill up on greens? Usually I eat a lot of spinach in the evening to ensure my intake of greens.
kind regards,
Sonja (oh-lilian)
Tuesday, June 22, 2010, 3:41 PM
Sonja, will you have a fridge? I like salads using fresh spinach instead of lettuce. You could still get the greens you're looking for without a freezer. Does it have to be leafy greens? Sliced peppers are fun to snack on and cucumbers are way low in calories.
I hope everyone is staying on track!!!! It's getting tough, but with all of y'alls encouragement, I'm doing alright =)
H2...haven't heard from you in a bit. Hope you're well =)

Sonja, I am a backpacker and use freeze dried food on the trail. This company is GREAT (use link below). The product tends to be a little costly but the quality is really high. And yeah, freeze dried is never as good as fresh. But it sounds like such a great vacation you have coming up! Let us know what you end up doing. Getting good food on the trail takes LOTS of planning. Is the trip planner providing your food? Since food weight is probably not an issue, you can probably bring along lots of fresh fruit to get fiber and fill up. The whole bathroom element is another concern for backpacking and sailing!
I am doing well. I celebrated my mom's 80th bday with her yesterday. The portions were good and the quality high (no junk food) but the food much richer. I had 3 bites of fresh fruit tart to celebrate with cake. SO I feel like I am still on the band wagon! Yay! Eating even cleaner today. I have lost track of the days at this point but I feel like I have gotten over a major hump.
This weekend will be another big challenge. Big family party with barbeque. I will do portion control approach again. I let out the reigns a little for these type celebrations and if I get right back on board within a day I am good.
Hope you are all doing well! Best wishes to you all!

Hi all- all I can say is Wow! I have been gone awhile but you all have been working hard and having a good conversation about no junk! Good work everyone.
For me I am very happy! I lost 6 lbs in 3 days on the Dr. Furman Eat to Live diet. Total pounds lost since joining PT in mid April is 18 pounds! This place rocks. Takes a lot of time to prepare the food, but its worth it. I have tons of energy of which I had been lacking for months now. I want it to last. Oh please help me stay focused.
Wednesday, June 23, 2010, 3:42 PM
Last post was from Love2Tri (Cyleste) - Ashley I do it too
Wednesday, June 23, 2010, 3:43 PM
thanks!
thanks for all your great comments and tips. Yes, we'll have a fridge - at least it will run in the evenings when we have power supply in the harbor. ;-)
Cucumbers are a great idea and salad of course! I will see if I get fresh spinach somewhere. And I never tried freeze dried stuff - might check it out, thanks!
I already packed tons of canned beans, nuts, oatmeal and stuff.
Very inspiring to read all your posts! I hope I will stay strong without them the next 2 weeks. :-/
Have a great time & I'm looking forward to hear how you're doing when I return.
Love, Sonja (oh-lilian)

Sonja - while I do hope you're able to stay on track and eat well while you're gone, I also hope you have an awesome time!!!! I'm super jealous =)
Cyleste - 6 lbs in 3 days?!?!? You must feel awesome!!! Good for you! I know what you mean about having more energy. I feel the same way. It's so gross to feel like a bum and not wanna do anything. I love being up and ready to move. And I'm so glad that you forget to add your name sometimes, too =) I've never heard of Dr Furman. Do you like the program? Would you recommend it? Keep up your awesome work!!!!
H2 - good luck with the BBQ!!! Oh man, temptation is gonna be following you around the whole time. No worries though, we're here for ya! I know that you're way determined and you can totally handle it!!!
Getting close to the weekend y'all. Remember, if we plan right then we can get through it without cramming our faces with crappy food. The best way to enjoy the weekend is to feel good about ourselves and I find that when I know I'm staying on track, I feel really excited about me and proud of what I'm doing. If you guys can watch what y'all eat over the weeken then so will I.
Ashley - I remembered to add my name this time =)
Thursday, June 24, 2010, 9:04 AM
Hi team!
Ashley thanks for the congrats. Yep I do recommend the program - Eat to Live. PT recommends it to along with the Diet Fusion concept of combining several different dielt programs to meet your personal needs.
I actually met my 2nd goal today of 20 lbs gone from when I joined Peer Trainer and the Point of No Return Coaching program! Yipee ! yah for me.
Good luck everyone on your vacations and bbqs. They all sound fun. Enjoy.
Cyleste

Hey lynneta - I have read the The Beck Diet Solution - both books and really like and agree to the mindful eating and making choices thing. You are absolutely right I need to control my choices and not let food control me.
Thanks for the tip.

Bday...
Hey y'all!!!
So my birthday is tomorrow, the 29th, and I need advice. I have to go to 2 different places tomorrow and I need to know how to avoid stuffing your face. There will be cake at both places and I have a really soft spot for sweets! It seems that once I have even a small taste of sweets, it's all downhill for me. Is this where the 3 bite rule would come into play??? HELP!
Congrats Cyleste!!!!!! 20 lbs!!!!!!!!! That's incredible!!!! I bet you feel like a million bucks!!!! Wow, that's really inspiring =)

I'm In!
No junk food for me! I'm so amazed with your story... you are an amazing woman!
Tuesday, June 29, 2010, 11:01 PM
Hope everyone is doing well!!! I ended up slacking pretty poorly on my bday. Then the next day too. Once the sugar gets into my system, I crave it soooo bad. So today is my new Day 1. I've found that after about 3 or 4 days of no sugar, I don't really crave it anymore. So here we go again =)
Good luck everyone and remember that whatever goes into your mouth will need to be burned off so don't stuff in too many calories today =)

PT Newbie. Haha
Hi everyone. I found this thread a few days ago and I must say that I am very impressed with the support and the successes that are here! I decided that I wanted to jump on the bandwagon here. =)
My background is that I used to be a pretty active person but with all of my snacking while studying (due to the fact that I am in college) and just shear laziness I have sort of let myself go a bit and I want to get back into shape and hopefully end up better off than I was a few years ago.
I was sick earlier this week and instead of looking at it like and oh no... this sucks.... I acutally used it to jump start this no junk thing. Now I'm 5 days without junk food! Woo Hoo! As the PT bootcamp call says I am going to stick to this and make an additional change by the end of this weekend like start a new workout plan or something. Whatever I do, I'm going to focus on doing things slowly. I am notorious for trying to change EVERYTHING at once and then it backfires because it is just way to much.
Ok well anyway. Sorry I feel like I rambled on a bit but the point is that I would like to join you guys and congrats to all of you for your accomplishments! Have a great 4th of July Weekend!

Start over again
Ok y'all, I slipped up AGAIN last night! A lady brought cupcakes into the shop last night and I just couldn't help it! They looked and smelled sooo good. So I had some. I've decided that I really need to get a hold of this. Once I can get the sugar out of my system - about 4 ays - I'm able to resist the urge. Let me reach out to of you and remind you that it's soooo hard to start all voer so keep up your awesome work! I'm going to start today and really kick the crap. I hope everyone is doing well and staying on track!!
Welcome to the team ag12! 5 days is awesome!!!! I bet you feel so proud of yourself, as you should =)
Good luck during 4th of July BBQs another weekend!!!! We can do this if we really, really want it!
