Body Brushing Comedy

As far as I know from my experience in spas, body brushing is a somewhat uncomfortable but highly effective exfoliation. It's a hard bristle brush that people scrub you with.

Funny story about that, in Europe the spas are communal and co-ed for the most part, everyone participates in theraputic rejuvenation together! No kids, and all nude... gah! I was a little shocked to say the least. I went in Baden and Scuol, Switzerland.

Anyway, so there are sequences to everything first you have to be in the nude, you are allowed one towel which you soon learn you don't want to cover you after each sequence of spa because you only get the one and its soaked by the end (Conservationists)... anyway, you are in the buff and walk into an 8 person at a time dry sauna, then into a steam sauna, then to a cold pool, then to a warm pool, THEN you have to shower off and stern Swiss women (mostly) scrub you with the body brushes and a mineral/aroma therapry oil/ maybe castile soap? Tons of dead skin comes off.

Then they power rinse you and you get a rub down... then you are wrapped in warm blankets and look out onto the Swiss Alps feeling very clean although somewhat embarassed about the amount of naked flopping around.

LOL!!!!
I love your description about going to a spa!

I've never gone to a "real" spa, where you get the deluxe treatment. On May 12th, my best friend is having a spa day with her bridesmaids and I'm working diligently at trying to improve my body so that I don't feel like a beached whale... I'm pretty shy when it comes to showing other people my body (except hubby), so this will be interesting! (Although I'm pretty sure we will not be traipsing around nude at this spa-- My friend is very conservative and I doubt she'd go to a spa that had you walking around in the nude! :-D

Can't wait as this will be a really fun treat for me.

Thanks for that story. I'll probably never end up in a spa after hearing that :). Although l loved the thought of staring at the Alps.
I'm the original poster again. Is there any way this is done at home ? About the brush does one get it in the market? If so what is it called?

Thanks

oh no!

Don't back off from spa-ing! It's amazing, it's just in Europe, everyone does it... it's not just reserved for the elite or savings draining trips. And, in the U.S. its really barely communal and ALWAYS gender segregated.

the brush

You can buy them at prob any Health Food store like Whole Foods or similar (not one strictly reserved to vitamins, I mean). I looked online and found a couple, but i'm not so sure how hard the bristles are and the spa effect is somewhat harder than your average back scrubber or loofah.

Check out the link below, its only $5! But, again you want someting a littler harder bristeled. You can get basically the same effect and by creating/buying your own scrub and using a loofah.

Here's one I like:
1/2 cup coarse salt or sugar but NOT both
2 tbl spoons aromatherapy oil (I like lavender)

rub and scrub over your whole body and let it soak, then rinse. I do some major exfoliation every or every other week. It helps the dead winter yuck skin go away faster.
