I don't get it. I've patched many flat tires.

My new favourite quote is

"I guess it means a patch that doesn't work, asshole"

I'm sorry but that made me laugh out loud.

Why does someone not understanding a comment make them an "asshole"? Which, by the way, is technically impossible. Generally when we put people down using ignorant vulgarity, women are "bitches" and men are "assholes" but since a woman can't really be a female dog and a man is more than one part of his body, neither is actually possible for someone to be.

I google searched the term. Doesn't seem to be some well known motivational thought process but rather is a catch phrase for one group. Truth be told, the original post could be construed as spam for said site since it is copyrighted to said site.

I get it....

Dieting without a lifestyle change is much like having a patched flat tire and not put air in it... Well that is how I took it.

Like you have the general idea but the overall results aren't going to get you anywhere.

You can temporarily fix a tire with a patch, but it is still fundamentally flawed. It is not whole.

It's the same way with dieting - a diet can patch the problem and help you lose weight, but the reason you gained in the first place will be there right under the surface, and it will be the first thing to fail when the rest of the system weakens. You can lose weight dieting - hundreds of people have. But to be whole, to be strong all the way around, you have to change your entire lifestyle.

I like your explanation, 4:09.

I have another:

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

I think sometimes we look at weight loss as the whole. "I have 63 pounds to lose." and it feels overwhelming. Look at it in 5 or 10 pound increments, and it's really just a few steps.

I love PT! Good laughs at every turn!

Actually, 4:09 that's not at all true. If you correctly patch a tire, it is still a tire that holds air, drives perfectly fine, and works as it should. It is not flawed. It is just as good as a tire straight from the factory. I've patched tires and then run them another 25,000 miles. By your thought process anything you fix that was once broken should be tossed because it's not perfect. Well guess what, no one is perfect.

If you truly believe you have to change your "entire lifestyle" to be successful in losing weight than you should just throw in the towel now. To change your entire ENTIRE lifestyle means to quit your job, divorce your wife/husband if you are married/get married if you are single, stop seeing your family, move to a new place, etc. It is IMPOSSIBLE to change your entire lifestyle. Even if you win the lottery, your family is still your family so you cant change that ergo you cannot change your entire lifestyle.

Seriously... it's a quote. It's a metaphor. Why are we arguing about tires?

Wednesday, January 06, 2010, 7:38 PM

Add comment
Because it's a really, REALLY bad alleged metaphor. And it's an erroneous statement about tires ergo the metaphor is wrong.

Did we actually confirm that the flat tire was reinflated? Or perhaps the tire is flat not because of a nail, but because the sidewall blew out in which case a patch wouldn't work. I think we need more information about how this tire went flat and what exactly was patched.

Do we know the tire is that of a car tire or could it be a bicycle tire?

set your mind and the rest will follow.

In all actually success does quite often happen by accident:

1. Penicillin
2. LSD
3. Potato Chips
4. Microwave
5. Teflon
6. Brandy
7. Artificial Sweetener
8. Popsicles
9. Chocolate Chip Cookies
10. Viagra

Others include the Post-It, the X-Ray, ice-cream cones, Super Glue, the Pace Maker, the Slinky, Champagne, just to name some more.

lol, this topic makes me laugh. It was supposed to be about motivational quotes, but turned into a discussion on everything from assholes to patching a flat tire to microwaves and LSD. Incidentally, there's an awesome motivational video at www.bestwayout.com. I love it.

You know they have this stuff you can just spray in your tire and it inflates it and seals the hole all at the same time!

Sorry, couldn't resist!

I'm curious. How did somebody accidently invent chocolate chip cookies?

Chocolate chip cookie ~~

According to Nestle, Mrs. Wakefield (owner of the Toll House Inn) was making chocolate cookies but ran out of regular baker’s chocolate, so she substituted it with broken pieces of semi-sweet chocolate, thinking that it would melt and mix into the batter. It clearly did not, and the chocolate chip cookie was born. Wakefield sold the recipe to Nestle in exchange for a lifetime supply of chocolate chips (instead of patenting it and making billions!) Every bag of Nestle chocolate chips in North America has a variation of her original recipe printed on the back (margarine is now included both as a variant on butter and for those people who want to pretend it is healthy).

"fall down 8 get up 9" in regards to weight loss? Makes it sound like you lose 8 pounds only to gain 9 back ~ a story too many of us are familiar with.
