Exercise Question

Ok, so we have a stationary bike in our guest room that my boyfriend's parents gave us. Works great! Been using it quite often actually. I read online that riding this boke for 60 minutes will burn 442 calories. My question is this: Do I have to ride the full 60 minutes all at one time to get the same effect or can I split it up through the day?

Thanks

I've heard that you'll get the same benefits if you break it up as you would in one 60 minute stint. My only 2 cents is that if you're working out/sweating for an entire hour it prob. is a better calorie burner than breaking it up. Just my opinion. No matter what, good for you in getting on it and doing it!

Splitting it up

This is a great question. Here is my two cents. Yes as mentioned above you will burn more fat if you do it all at once at least while you are excersising. The longer you excersise the more you body starts using fat instead of glycogen. However you do continue to burn after you excersise. The more intense the excersise the more and longer you get the after effect. So what this means is if lets say you bike 30 minutes in the morning, you get an afterburn so to speak and burn some nice calories for a good couple of hours or so. Then you do it again late afternoon, you get a second afterburn. The moral of the story is they are both good, but you may actually burn more and lose more weight with a two a day. If you did a couple good intense 20 minutes you could get a nice effect. Anyway, great question.

I agree with 8:21p, and if you can get yourself on the bike for an hour - no matter the interval - good for you!

if splitting it up makes it more likely that you'll do it then you'll end up burning more calories :P
-an hr at once can feel like a challenge so we procrastinate and it often doesnt get done- for me anyway
