wii fit vs. wii active

I just got a wii and am looking to purchase either the wii fit or the wii active. Anyone have any recommendation for one over the other? I've heard the wii fit is more of "fun" whereas active is more of a "workout".

Any input would be appreciated!

It seems it would depend on what you personally are looking for and how much you want to spend. One seems to be a complete kit for over $90 (the Fit) and the other seems to just be a game.

Great question OP. I was wondering the same thing myself.

I bought my kids a Wii for Christmas and was going to take my bonus money to pick one up and did some research and decided neither one was for me.

The Wii fit is fun. The Wii active is more of a workout.

However, neither one is going to be the weight loss answer for me. It might be for you, but it's not structured enough for me. It's not a workout routine and people I talked to said you spend a lot of resting time going from activity to activity on both systems.

I think when I reach my goal weight, the Wii Active would be a fabulous addition to a workout while having a great time.

Good luck OP! Best wishes to you in 2010

I don't have the fit to compare the active to, but my best friend bought me the active for my birthday.. its definately not a game.. its a great workout.. Its not my only means of exercising though..I walk, run, go to the gym, workout dvds, body elastics, step, ball, weights, but I do get a good workout from my wii active..

you can do various exercises on your own or they have set 30 day challenge.. its a good addition to my workouts.

3:52 post. We got a Wii Fit Plus for xmas. You can design your own routine and personalize it the way you want. It will go from one thing to the next. I just got started last night with it, so I haven't had time to make my own, but my daughter has and she loves it. I am excited to use it, especially the way it keeps track of your calories burned and lets you know what you need to improve on. It's sort of like a personal trainer!

I have wii fit and wii fitness coach. I think the wii fit is more fun and our whole family loves it. I like the fitness coach for work outs. You are able to adjust the workout for your desired intensity and also incorporate dumbells, exercise balls, things like that. It measures inches instead of BMI, if you do a different workout like jog or walk you can count it as one of your workouts. Plus you can get it real cheap now! Toward the end of your workout session there is more rest & you can workout for I think15 min-1hr, whatever you want. Love it

Do they all require special systems that are $100 or so or are some just games and the hand held controllers are enough?

Great insight guys, Thanks! I was hearing a different story, so I'm glad everyone chimed in with what they like about it.

for the active.. I use just the hand held controllers that came with my system, but you can use the wii fit board if you have it. which I don't. getting ready to hit my wii active now.. have a great day!

UPDATE

Monday, December 28, 2009, 3:52 PM Checking in with an update.

My friends had me fooled and I need to correct them. I bought the Wii EA Sports Active for myself for Christmas ($50 instead of $100 for fit). I just did my first workout and it kicked my ass!

You can set your level of intensity, chose the things you like to do, track your workout and everything. In 20 minutes I burned 189 calories.

The band it came with is a little cheezy, so I tightened my up to get a better workout. Then i grabbed my resistance bands and used them for a more effective workout. I am going to buy ankle weights for more resistance.

It doesn't have abs on there, but I will do that separately with my ball.

I love it and think I'm going to buy the second CD with more workouts and I might just buy the balance board.

LOVE IT!

fab.
