Slim fast?
Anyone doing the slim fast plan?
Fri. Mar 24, 10:14am
I am I am! Doctor is supporting my choice! I've lost weight! Shakes taste Greattt!
Friday, March 24, 2006, 10:17 AM
Woo Slim Fast!
I actually am too!.. I did it before and lost weight and now I'm going to do it again! I don't really like when ppl who haven't tried it think its unhealthy. The shakes have more of what you need in them, then most foods! Not to mention the calcium you are getting from the Milk and the avoidance of junk food on the plan! My doctors also said it was okay for weight loss and once you drop the weight go on the very safe maintenance plan! How much have you lost?
Friday, March 24, 2006, 10:24 AM
Do you feel full after you drink a shake? or do you do the bars? I tried SF for a little while and I never really felt full. Also, something in the shakes made my stomach get bad cramps. Does that happen for any of you?
Friday, March 24, 2006, 10:30 AM
Try it again!
I think the point of eating in general isn't to feel full. You aren't supposed to eat until full usually. I am also on the program. It does take some getting used to. I did get a few times sharp stomach pains but my doctor said it was from my body getting used to burning fat! I also get kind of a gurgling, which he also said was your body actually metabolizing fat! I was amazed, but it made sense because anytime I felt that sensation the next day I would be down on the scale!
If you can get past the first week or so of the plan, you are golden for the next few months. My doctor suggested that I go on it for 3-4 months then go back to one shake per day. I find I get more fullness out of the shakes. I also try and have a bit of protein with the shake as well, usually 1 slice of turkey bacon!
Trust me, I have lost 20 pounds before on the slim fast plan and I know that its tough the first few days, but again... at about day 5 or 6 or 7 you start wondering what all the fuss was about! Give it a try again, and try to have a little something with the shake so your body doesn't respond so harshly.
In addition, another poster said about all the great things slim fast has in it like nutrients and calcium and such, and you need all of those to thrive and really have the energy to work out! Also, because you aren’t eating so many heavy foods, you feel lighter and not so lethargic ~!
Hope that helps!
Friday, March 24, 2006, 10:59 AM
2nd poster here... I have lost 10 pounds on the SF plan so far!!
Friday, March 24, 2006, 10:59 AM
I was poster number 3 and I have lost 28 pounds on the plan so far! It’s the only thing that has worked that really changed my entire life.
I really do feel lighter, I do have more energy and I clearly do have weight coming off.
I went for medical tests to see if I was deficient in any minerals (as last time I went, I was) and now after doing the plan I am fine in every category. Try it.
Friday, March 24, 2006, 11:09 AM
Okay fourth poster again. Do you drink the shakes for breakfast and lunch, then have a regular dinner or some other combination? I workout during lunch and would have a shake afterwards and by dinner I was starving. I will have to try it again and get through the cramps. I am glad to know thats just fat burning! I thought maybe I was alergic to something in SF. Thanks for the info everyone!
Friday, March 24, 2006, 11:19 AM
Sometimes I have a shake for breakfast and lunch then regular dinner.. sometimes I have breakfast and then shakes for lunch and dinner.. I find it crazy how addicted ones body is to food. The first week, the fat burning cramps and not only that but your body is actualy going " hey... you stuffed me before... I'm waiting to be full.... hello? *cramps* " lol Also sometimes your body can have a reaction to just that in your stomach. I agree with the person who said have some protien with it, it will help ease the cramps so long as its not that much food and not high in cals! :) Hope we all helped
Friday, March 24, 2006, 11:44 AM
I never lost weight doing the SF plan - I had a shake for breakfast, one for lunch and then a "sensible" dinner.
Friday, March 24, 2006, 12:14 PM
Hello,
I lost 15 pounds on it and have kept it off. Slim Fast was INCREDIBLY motivating for me because if you stick to the plan you will see fairly quick, steady weight loss. Hoever I knew I needed to change my life and that once I was off it the weight would come back if I didn't. Slim Fast will tell you as much too - they are not meant to be a long-term solution. So I did a lot of reasearch and started improving my dinners (which I prepared according to Slim Fast guidelines), and then I replaced breakfast and then lunch and I have maintained my weight loss for 3 years. I am actually ready to go down another 10-15 pounds to my ideal weight. I am not sure how I will do this. I can lose weight eating conventional food, but I must admit Slim Fast takes any guess work out of it and you get those results quick!
As I was following it - you are to drink 1 shake for breakfast, have a piece of fruit midmorning, drink a shake for lunch and have a fruit or veggie for your afternoon snack. Then eat a healthy dinner with 1 serving protein, 1 grain/starch and 3 veggies (measure your portions!) and 1 evening snack. I usually cut out the midmorning snack (no time where I used to work) and had fruit and lite yogurt with lunch instead. Then I would have a hot cup of veggie soup in the afternoon for a snack. If I didn't have much time for a snack I would eat one of their snack bars (most of which are quite good and the peanut butter crunch downright rocks!). I still eat these today when I am craving candy or something sweet - I will have a snack bar instead.
While I was following the plan, I started religiously measuring my dinner portions and snacks, and this has been the most lasting change I've made - smaller (more realistic) portions! The first week I was hungry quite a bit, but that did go away and now I cannot believe I used to eat the size of meals I did. Where did I put everything? (I have some ideas there ;-))
The shakes are definitely decent - I did think the mix was better than the cans. Possibly because I buy 'Skim Royale' which is skim milk that tastes and cooks like 2% and thus the ones I made tasted a bit richer and thicker. A shake kept me full for ~2-3 hours. If you have any issues the first week you might consider a mild appetitie suppressant, but really once my body adjusted I was not hungry.
This plan worked really well for me, but ONLY because I followed Slim Fast's recommendations for healthy eating on the plan and had a strategy for when I went off the plan in order to maintain my weight loss. If I had gained the weight right back, then I would be much less of a fan. Best wishes!
Friday, March 24, 2006, 12:17 PM
I have never lost weight with slim fast they also bothered my stomach. My question is on you going to drink them for the rest of your life? If not what happens when you start eating normal again. Slim fast is great for people on the go. To those who have lost weight on slim fast that's wonderful keep up the good work. Have a great Spring day.
Friday, March 24, 2006, 12:57 PM
After I lost my weight on slim fast, I went to drinking 1 shake in the morning and keeping my cals under 2000 which is a lot of food in a day. Its not that hard to do at all. Infact its easier.
Friday, March 24, 2006, 1:03 PM
Can you be on the plan while you are pregnant????????????
Friday, March 24, 2006, 2:33 PM
Good lord no. You need to eat whole foods and veggies and all of that. Slim fast is totally not for Pregnant ladies. You shouldn't ever try and lose weight while pregnant on your own, even a day along. Consult your doctor if you are trying to lose weight while pregant, the can put you on a plan that is good for you and your baby.
Friday, March 24, 2006, 2:38 PM
I've lost 15 pounds on SF! Only thing that has worked for me. Drinking a chocolate shake 2 times a day, there was never a need for candy!
Friday, March 24, 2006, 4:28 PM
With the nutrition info for a SF shake twice a day, how many calories are left for dinner?
Friday, March 24, 2006, 4:31 PM
Each shake is about 250 cals... so your at 500 cals by dinner... so you get about 800 cals for dinner and snacks.. I usually have about a 300 cal dinner.. and a few snacks keeping it at about 1000-1200 cals.. if thats too low for you, and I know for a lot of people it is... go to www.slim-fast.com they have a buddy program, you can customize a meal plan, they make one for you based on what you eat. You enter your stats and its an amazing system, its like Peer trainer, but Slim fast and there is more calculators, trackers and such on the SF site though
Friday, March 24, 2006, 4:51 PM
Can slim fast help you lose the last 10 pounds or is it more for people with more to lose?
Sunday, March 26, 2006, 1:01 PM
Slim fast can for sure help you lose those last 10 pounds, and if you have 100 pounds to lose. It is such a comprehnsive and inclusive program that you can lose weight not matter how much weight you have to lose.
Check out www.slim-fast.com one of the best sites I have ever seen on the topic. It has so much informtaion, it has calculators and makes you a plan based on a questionare! Please check it out!
Sunday, March 26, 2006, 1:13 PM
Is the sugar content high in Slim Fast? I have heard people say to try things like Met-RX instead because of the sugar. Any suggestions?
Sunday, March 26, 2006, 2:56 PM
Slim fast has come out with a new product line. The "Optima" line has 50% less sugra then the original blend!
The link below is all the information on the Optima Shakes. Also there is another line Optima with hunger supressing

slim fast, but not for long
I've done slim fast and lost weight as well. The only problem with it, though, is that it's difficult to maintain the weight after you stop drinking the shakes. it's better to lose weight by making permanent diet changes.
Monday, May 15, 2006, 8:40 AM
To all the posters who have lost weight....... How long did it take to lose the amoount you posted?
I am thinking about doing the plan.
Thanks
Tuesday, May 16, 2006, 8:06 AM
I lost 15-20
I lost 15-20 pounds on the slim fast plan about 3 years ago. It took me just under 2 months. I didn't work out though, just changed the eating. I wouldn't say I gained it back as a result of going off the plan, I just didn't make a life style change like I did this time.
I am down 12 pounds, and 5 pounds of pure fat since about 25 days ago. Its a great plan for people on the go, not to mention people who like it simple.
Go to www.slim-fast.com
They have a great site! You can also join the team when I start it up and we can probably answer all of your questions
Tuesday, May 16, 2006, 9:33 AM
Slim Fast claims that if you follow their guidelines you can lose up to 2 pounds a week and I did indeed lose ~2 lbs a week.
Tuesday, May 16, 2006, 12:56 PM
Worked for me too! I've lost 12 pounds
Wednesday, May 17, 2006, 5:34 PM
But that sugar.............
I checked out the NF of the can and theres like... (WAY) too much sugar in the can.
how does SlimFast really work?? with all that sugar............. im confused.

Slim Fast
So two shakes a day and a good dinner? What about eating 6 times a day like they say you should? Is taht where the snack bars come in?
Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 11:12 PM
check the site re: food
i just decided to do slim fast just to give myself a jump start. i tend to be very slow to start losing weight, and it can be disheartening, esp. when husband easily drops 6 pounds a week whenever he wants (oh, the unfairness of it all). also, starting exercise AND figuring out a new way to eat at the same time is a little more time-consuming than i can handle right now.
the web site suggests (as an example): shake for lunch, snack bar + fruit for snack 1, shake + small amt. of food for lunch, snack bar + veggies for snack 2, regular dinner, small evening snack. all food amounts (as i've said) are very small -- i think the fruit portion is 1/2 cup. so you're not as completely off food as some would have you believe.
i modify the above for what's going on in my day and how i'm feeling. keeps me pretty satisfied, especially if i stay well-hydrated. the first couple days were tough on my stomach, as i tend to be lactose intolerant (let's not go there), but after a couple of days it has evened out.
i say... take all precautions here to heart, and go for it!

slim fast plan
what is the latest time that you should have your dinner when you are on the slim fast plan? and i was wondering if you have to work out to see results.i want to lose about 20 pounds, and i am 147 now. does anyone know how long that might take me if i correctly follow this plan.thank you :b
Tuesday, November 13, 2007, 11:52 PM
I just started the slim fast plan and it is day three for me. It is so very hard but i think if i stick to it it can get easier. I was very hungry the first day. I notice that now I am able to adjust to the meals and feel full longer.
Thursday, April 24, 2008, 11:44 AM
that was my problem with slimfast - I was just so hungry I would rather eat a pieces of fruit and a handfull of granola for the 110 cal than drink it - it felt like it never satisfied me.
Thursday, April 24, 2008, 11:49 AM
As soon as I finished reading this thread, I went out and bought mine :)
$13 for 12 Optima cans at Rite-Aid
I'm going to start tomorrow
Thursday, April 24, 2008, 2:20 PM
I too want to start the slim fast plan..starting on the first of the month..is there going to be a group???
Thursday, April 24, 2008, 4:42 PM
I love the slim fast plan! I have a shake every morning and I have fit it into my LA weight loss plan! It really does work. If there is a group I will join for sure :)
Friday, April 25, 2008, 11:13 AM
Does this plan work for people who have about 30lbs to lose? I was once told that SF only works for people who have a lot of weight to lose.......I've never tried it, but now am curious.
Friday, April 25, 2008, 1:23 PM
The plan works because you are limiting your calorie intake. You could do it by eating anything that uses very few calories (not just slimfast shakes). Intaking fewer calories than what you burn is the only way to lose weight, so yes, if you are consuming less calories than you burn on slimfast then it will work for you.
Friday, April 25, 2008, 6:31 PM
I havn't followed 'the plan' for a few years, and i got into some quite unhealthy eatting habits at that time, where i would only have half a shake per meal, and a really small dinner (this was when i was 15 and i've now reviewed the disordered eatining i had then)
Recently i have started using shakes and meal bars occasionally to replace meals when i am in a rush and don't have time to make a healthy meal choice, or if i know i won't be able to get a healthy lunch where i'm going. it seems to be working really well.
Also as far as the way the plan is set up, shake for breakfast and one for lunch, i tend to try and eat a 'proper' lunch and have a shake in the evening
Saturday, April 26, 2008, 1:57 AM
starting tommrow
i am starting the slimfast diet tommrow and last time i was unsucessfil because i didnt know that the pains i was feeling in my stomach and the hunger was normal...thanks for all of your blogs..i am feeling really motivated!
Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 2:01 AM
slim fast
I am a trainer and did not read all of the posts here, BUT just an FYI you really should be eating breakfast lunch dinner and two snacks during everyday! If you start eating less than 1200 calories a day you are going to be in for a big surprise when your bodies metabolism actually slows down and you lose no weight after a while. Suggestion; go to calorieking.com use the one week free trial and document what you eat for one week....don't make any changes YET. Learn what your eating NOW and then work from there. It's a math game 3500 calories is one pound, if you take away 500 calories a day you lose one pound in one week! You might be eating more than you think! Then if you actually exercise 4-5 days a week for 30mins you should lose 2 pounds a week. There are many many options for breakfast lunch and dinner to keep you satisfied.....but please don;t live off of slim fast.
Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 2:49 PM
The comments about cramps are a little ironic for me. I have some GI illness (still looking for a diagnosis) and Slimfast is about the only thing that does NOT give me gut cramps. At this point I'm drinking it to try to not lose weight....
Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 11:34 PM
slim fast
Just started the slim fast ten days ago I am starting to notice some changes. They say to walk thirty mins. a day but due to an injury two years ago walking is hard work so I do walk but for 15 mins. and do other cardio. My wife is also on the plan but is getting headaches, does anyone know why? More Later.

Slim Fast
OK, i just turned 40 and need to lose weight!!!
I'm trying the Slim Fast, 1 at breakfast and 1 at lunch then a sensible dinner and walk for an 1/2 hour to start.
Weight today - 183
1st Goal - drop 10 lbs in a month and exercise AGAIN!!
Monday, May 19, 2008, 12:00 AM
a less sugary option
Slimfast 's concept is good for those like myself who need less choice to stay focus but if you are a borderline diabetic or sugar trigurs your appetite Slim fast may not be the way to go. Medifast is less sugary has variety, soups and snack bars. Check out the nutrition labels on both and make your own choice

i would be very very interested to start a slim fast team just let me know when you have started it

sf
i started the plan today i weight 19stone and need to shift it before my 21st in january. i find it hard not to pick at foods when im at work (i work in a pub surrounded by food ALL day!) anyone got any tips for me?
Saturday, July 5, 2008, 6:52 AM
I noticed no one paid any attention to what the trainer had to say. He/she makes sense. You're health is very important, not just the weight loss. Apartame has been known to cause cancer. Is it worth the risk?
Friday, July 11, 2008, 11:14 AM
sf
I am going to start it on Monday I know it's gonna be hard cause I will miss eating regular food but I am gonna do it I am sick of being 160lbs I want to get back to my normal weight at 135 ..I hope this works.n Also I drink tons of water that curbs my hunger

Slim Fast
I have been on and off slim fast for about 5 years. I have had mixed results, obviously with how much effort I have put into it. About 2 years ago, I went on strict slim fast (shake in the morning and one for lunch) and dinner only. I would "treat" myself to fresh fruit or a salad here and there (mostly due to the extra calories in the dressing). I was running 3+ miles a day, 3-4 days a week and working out with weights. In about 6 weeks, I had lost nearly 20 lbs. I felt great. Unfortunately I hit some rough times in my job, had some emotional work issues and turned to the DingDong for comfort. Now, in a new job, better off emotionally, I'm back on the slim fast, and almost at the 3 miles a day mark again. I'm about 170 now, (already lost 5 lbs). Looking to be around 140. I know I can't rely on slim fast to get me that far, and that it will take a lot more control on my part. If slim fast can help me get under 160, I hope to have the healthy habits in place by then to go the distance.
My DH has also joined my fight taking before and after pictures weekly, stopping me from that piece of dessert when we're out, and helping me keep track of my progress.
Friday, July 11, 2008, 3:51 PM
just started
hello, i just started 3 days ago! I don't really get that hungry on the plan but i am sure that will come soon. obviously i haven;t lost weight yet but i can;t wait. i have tried many things so far, for about 3 or 4 months i was working out 5 days a week (weight training and cardio), stopped drinking except water, and i didn't eat any junk food. I didn't lose any weight or inches. so i have been looking for another plan for the past few months and this is the only that seemed to fit into my life style. I will keep everyone posted on my progress.

Slim Fast Shakes have trans fats in them. Just a thought...
Thursday, August 28, 2008, 7:04 PM
I am looking at the label of my Slimfast (meal options, rich chocolate royale) and it clearly states 0g of trans fats. On reading the ingredients, the fat source is canola oil.
Care to try again, PP?
Thursday, August 28, 2008, 7:08 PM
"Care to try again, PP"
What is that? Is there a need to be rude? If you look at the ingredients you will see...
Also, companies are allowed to but 0g Trans Fats on their label if they have less than one gram.
Friday, August 29, 2008, 4:38 PM
Hydrogenated soybean oil is also a source of fat...
Friday, August 29, 2008, 4:38 PM
To 10:53 - are you sure you have a HYPERthyroid? Usually people with a hyperthyroid cannot gain weight to save themselves no matter what they eat. I think you may have a HYPOthyroid.
Friday, August 29, 2008, 5:00 PM
Anything hydrogenated is BAD.
Friday, August 29, 2008, 5:02 PM
7:08 here. You bet, I am combative, rude, and PMSing, so bring it on! The trans fat poster is making an unsubstantiated and untrue statement about a product in a thread that is intended to be informational about the product. The least that person could do is look at a can. I have a hard time believing that the remark was meant to be anything but discouraging.
So come on, discourage people by telling the truth! It's processed food with a few things in it that one might well not ingest in the course of a whole-foods diet.
However, if one reads the ingredients, which I did since I had it in my hand, canola oil is the only fat source, and it is on there as plain canola oil, not hydrogenated.
Hydrogenation is done to make normally very liquid oils more stiff, like Crisco. If you think about it, this would not be at all desirable in a liquid shake.
Friday, August 29, 2008, 8:51 PM
Hyperthyroid
Yes I do...I’m being treated for it thus why I’ve been gaining weight. At first I was loosing weight like crazy and I found out I had it then I started to get treated for it(radioiodine) so everything is slowing down that’s why I’m gaining weight now. There might be a chance of going into Hypo mode which I don't want...but I can deal with it at least that’s what I like to think so. If you don't treat it then you can keep loosing weight and you can basically die because it affects your heart.

I live in a muslim country so we will not be able to eat and drink in public areas during the day, starting from tomorrow for the month of Ramdan. I have done slimfast in the past with success, but not for many years. I have decided to use slimfast by a means of getting calories and nutrients easily and quickly and hopefully lose a bit of weight to boot, i'll let you know how i get on.
Sunday, August 31, 2008, 5:06 AM
5:06 Good luck and hope we here from you and how you are doing. Keep us posted.
Monday, September 1, 2008, 1:45 AM
I did slimfast before and lost about 33 lbs...the weight gained back was because i had went through a "woe is me let's have a pity party stage and eat everything" couple of months but i'm back on it. I do agree, it's hard the first few days but it works for me because i get my chocolate fix in the shakes and don't feel deprived.
BTW, have seen other people posting about starting a team..i'll give it a shot and start one now. Everyone is welcome to join.
Monday, September 1, 2008, 7:05 PM
What do you think helps you combat hunger better: the bars or the shakes?
Wednesday, September 10, 2008, 4:01 PM
How long does it take?
I have been on the slim fast plan for seven days. I feel lighter but it has not shown on the scale yet. I have even been doing fat burning exercises for five days for 20 min at a time. I am even taking green tea triple fat burning pills. I need to lose 15lbs by my wedding in March. Will I happen for me?? Some one please help
Wednesday, January 7, 2009, 8:49 PM
I lost about 10-15 pounds in about 4 weeks actually.... on the plan. but you have to be like SHAKE, SHAKE, DINNER and thats like it. Thats what the plan was when I did it a few years back.
Thursday, January 8, 2009, 9:29 AM
I went out to shop for Slim-Fast as soon as I finished reading this thread. I found that Equate, the Wal-Mart substitute for Slim-Fast, has no saturated fat and less cholesterol than actual Slim-fast, for the same amount of nutrients. I bought four 6-packs and am going to see what happens for the first 12 days.
I would love to join a Slim-Fast group/team! Has anyone formed one yet?

if you do aerobic excercise for 40 mins 5 days a wk and stick to the plan
you will lose the weight
if not a couple of pounds more remember youve only been doing it 4 a week try going 4 a sauna a couple of times a week as well that will help.

i need answers asap
i am 16 years old and just started to drink slim fast today. i am 200 pounds and dont look like it at all i am alot smaller looking. does slim fast take away body fat also rather than pounds. can i loose weight without exercising on the slim fast plan? thanx
Friday, February 13, 2009, 10:06 PM
You can lose weight on the SlimFast plan without working out. But in my opinion, it's better to work out, be healthy, and look toned, rather than just become skinnier.
Saturday, February 14, 2009, 9:56 AM
?
thanx but i have more questions.
while on the slim fast plan how long would it take for me to loose 20 pounds because i need to loose more than that really. will it make me just loose pounds or will it actually show on me, like my clothes fitting bigger on me?
Saturday, February 14, 2009, 10:14 AM
To answers asap - I agree with 9:56
Especially if you're 16, I think it's important not to restrict yourself to a liquid diet type program for too long. You are STILL growing physiologically and you still require a decent dose of daily nutrients (that are IN the food you eat) while you are on a weight loss program.
That said, I don't think it would be harmful to do a very limited time slim fast plan (that includes exercise) to allow yourself to lose the initial 5 pounds to 10 pounds. I agree with an above poster that an initial weight loss like that can be quite motivating. But after that, it's really important to switch to a sensible eating and exercise plan that will involve more planning and patience (see the PT diets link below).
Good Luck!

10:14 - Everybody's different
No one knows your physiological make up but you. No one knows when you will lose a certain amount of weight. And if you do drastic diets for too long or too often, you're only bound to gain the weight back before you can wear your new skinny jeans more than twice.
That said, I read somewhere once that for every 10 pounds, you go down one size approximately. But, again, that really depends on *your* body shape and how fit you are, especially in terms of musculature, and how you're losing the weight. A starvation diet might make you lose, and your clothes loose, quickly, but that could be all water weight or you might lose inches from your boobs and nothing from your waist. If you're eating sensibly and exercising regularly, you might be more likely to lose it slowly but more evenly, as your inches are coming off because you're tightening up.
Before you think ahead of massive amounts of pounds loss, just try to set a small goal of 5 pounds or 10 pounds and judge for yourself how you lose weight and from where on your body it falls.

this really does help alot. i would say that my biggest problems are my legs, stomach, and arms. i've always been fat and i gain weight really fast for example i was 185 in september of 2008 now i am at 200. i dont even eat alot also i love to eat salds and fruits but it just doesnt work for me in the outcome. i am tired of eing labled the fattest in all my classes. that is why i took up the sf plan. i am going to sig up for the gym soon to. but thank you ; ]

10:37 - You're welcome....also
Just a question - have you spoken to your family physician about this? I'm not saying that anything's glaringly obvious, but it wouldn't hurt to get checked out just in case there might be a medical reason for your current weight.
If you've already seen a physician, then never mind!
Best Wishes to you in achieving your goals!

Eating lots of fruits and salads doesn't mean you can't overeat. At restaurants some of the highest calorie choices are the salads! And seemingly harmless, 'healthy' premade fruit smoothies are a calorie and sugar disaster. Educate yourself along the way about nutrition, portion sizes, ect. Eat This, Not That are good resources for learning about a lot of the food that's out there. It's knowledge that's good for a lifetime!

sorry for the wait
i have seen a doctor about this but they would just tell me that i am overweight and my cholesterol is high but it still doesnt explain it at all. but hey i lost a pound!

Slim Fast
Okay, I've been on slim fast for a week. I've noticed that my stomach has gotten bigger. Any one having this issue? My exercise wokout consists of slim in 6 and I love the workout but it just seems like my stomach is bigger than it was when I started. Well, beginning Monday I'm going to cut out eating starches with my dinner. I haven't eaten any sweets or sodas so I don't know what the problem may be. I bought a digital scale from walmart and it is reading incorrectly so I'm going back and getting the old school scale today. I need to lose 10-15 pounds by March 21st. I'm hoping I'm down by 2 pounds at least.

Not a good idea
Slim fast is not a good idea. You are putting so many yucky things in your body using that stuff. It would be better to use a base good fruit juice (RW Knudsen makes good ones) add some keifer and pasturized egg whites. You could even add frozen fruit and make a smoothie. This would be much better for you, but I wouldn't even eat this all day long, your body needs NUTRITION and whole foods so you digest better. Give your body the NUTRITION it needs!

I think I'm going to start trying Slim Fast come Monday.
I want to lose 20 - 25 pounds by June 1st. Hopefully all goes well, and I'll be adding about 30 minutes of excersize a day for the time.
My start weight is 154.5
My goal weight 130.0
I'll keep you posted :)

It's Working!
I had some of my mom's slim fast shake around 17 years ago and thought it was nasty so I never thought about using it. I'm 29 now and have been over 300 pounds. I've tried every diet in the book, some with success, some not. Successful or not I've always gained the weight back. My wife just had our third child so I decided it was time to get serious about getting healthy. A co-worker was drinking a can of slim fast and in response to my poking fun at him he challanged me to try it. He assured me it doesn't taste as bad as it used to. I bought a case expecting to throw it away but I was suprised... it actually tastes good! I'm not as big a fan of the strawberry, but the chocolate is really good. I have a shake for breakfast, one with some chicken breast or omlete for lunch and a normal dinner under 800 calories including a helping serving of vegies. Whenever I get snacky I have a Yoplate Light Yogurt (they are really good for 100 calories, but I must say I hate their commercials) Between the shakes, meals and snacks I'm below 2000-2200 calories a day. I've been doing 30 minutes to and hour of exercise (walking, stationary bike, and weights) 4-5 days a week. Long story short - i'm down 27 POUNDS IN 5 WEEKS!! That's after I had already slowly lost 10 pounds over the month prior to starting slim fast. I'm sure it's not all fat, probably a lot of water, but it's not much muscle as I'm lifting more than when I started.
I'm sure that all the anti-slim fast folks who have previously commented will freak out about how unhealthy it is for me to lose weight that fast, or how the shakes lack nutritien, or that sucralose is bad for you... to them I say, it's not as unhealthy as being obease, with a BMI over 37. I'll take my chances with the slim fast, because it is helping me feel good about this diet, I'm not getting bored of it, and am excited to get to my goal weight of 200 pounds (i'm 6'3"). I'm sure all the nay-sayers mean well, but obeasity is currently killing a lot more people than all the asperamine in the world.
A few more details, I'm using the Optima shakes, and I've tried the Equate brand - it's not as good... it's more watered down and doesn't hold my hunger as long. Do what works for you, and remember moderation in all things... you shouldn't live on the stuff alone as it doesn't have enough protien and other nutrients, but suplimental to the food you take... well, I'm sold! I've got 66 pounds to go and I'm aiming to get there in the next 6 months. Wish me luck!

how much are you expected to lose per week?
Hi,
I am a 32 year old female and I just started the SF plan. How much can I expect to lose? I have a shake for breakfast and lunch, piece of fruit in between, an activia after lunch and a sensible 500 calorie dinner. Maybe a piece of fruit or yogurt at night. I work out for an hour 4 times a week (kickboxing, elliptical or walking).
As for the comments about the pains being the fat buring pains, I doubt that. I think that it is just a form or gas. When I was younger, someone told me that SF has an ingredient that expands when it gets inside, giving you the 'full feeling'. Not sure if that's true, but that might explain the pain that some people have.
Good luck to the guy with the new baby. I agree, if you stick to this temporarily, it is better than the harms of being overweight.
Monday, March 16, 2009, 9:38 AM
The slim fast plan is just a calorie reduced diet, except one where you have to replace real, whole, nutritious food with their processed substitutes.
Congratulations for everyone it is working for! I don't mean to say stop what is working for you at all!
I just mean that, eating low fat, low calorie, high fiber food, like lots of fruits, veggies, legume's, is much better for you (both immediately and long term) then eating what is basically a well marketed, highly processed, low calorie, junk food.
If you consume less calories then you use, you will lose weight (excluding some medical problems), regardless of whether you are drinking slim fast, or eating food that is more nutritionally dense and actually good for you body.
You might be having stomach pains because a lot of dairy is bad for the human body, despite what the dairy industry wants you to believe, high dairy consumption has been linked to stomach problems.
In any case, like I said, my intention is not to discourage anyone, but just to point out that, although the Slim Fast diet may work, is not healthy at all, and you can get to same results by eating real food. If you eat mostly natural whole foods, lots of fruit, veggies, whole grains and lean protein, you will be able to eat enough not to feel hungry, even while eating a calorie reduced diet, and you will lose weight. Not to mention you will not have sugar highs and lows through out the day from all the sugar in Slim Fast, or be filling your body with toxins if you chose the SlimFast made with fake sweeteners.

Started Monday March 16th
Hello! I started Slim Fast on Monday March 16th and it is taking some adjusting. I have been on the diet before and lost 30 lbs within about 3 months (maybe a little less). I followed it strictly then. I will do the same now.
I am currently 169lbs and am looking to get down to at least 140lbs. I will keep posting my progress on this site to ensure I stick with it, giving me some accountability and to help all those out there with some support.
My body is still getting used to SF; but I know from the past that it takes at least a week or two for that to happen. I know I was overeating before and that is why my body is reacting this way now.
I will keep you posted!!!!

How long does it take to lose weight
I am 59 years old and I weigh 151 lbs and I am 5' 6 in. I exercise 5X a week and I lift weights. I have been teaching aerobics for over 20 years. Anyways, I weigh more now than I have in my life, except when I was pregnant. I eat healthy, I don't eat bread or sugary foods or white carbs. I thought I would try SF. I was wondering how long it took before the weight started coming off for others. This is the second day and so far I weigh the same. I know I'm impatient!!

I bet you look good! We are meant to weigh a little more as we grow older!
If you are being honest about your eating, you are the weight you are meant to be!

Everyone says I look good, but I have some fat around my waist that I want to lose. Thanks for the positive comment! I also feel heavy when I walk around, lol!

Starting SF as of 2morrow:)
I am starting SF for a short time to get me started on my new heathier life style. I realize that eating heathy is the best option, but I have a problem with food...I'm an over eater. My plan is to use SF for 8 weeks which I feel is a good amount of time to shrink my stomach enough and get me into the habit of eating less. I know this is not something I want to do
for the rest of my life, but use it merely as a stepping stone to get to my ultimate goal which is getting health. I forgot to mention I am 30, 5'3" and weigh 223 lbs. I will keep everyone posted weekly on how things are going:)

Great Alternative To Slim Fast
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Do not take Slim Fast.
Please.
If you came to this thread via an internet search, know that there are so many ways of losing weight that don't involve putting more chemicals in your body. There is already enough junk out there that our bodies are dealing with.
If you are looking for a natural way to lose weight, and you want to make it as easy as slim fast, try this simple soup recipe. People love it, and it works to help you lose weight. PLUS you'll be ingesting something that helps to REMOVE toxins from your body, not add more.
Here is the recipe:

Slim Fast
I am starting my own "slim fast" resipe. Protien powder with milk 250 cals twice per day and 500 calorie dinner. 2 hours a day of work out. This is the new Jessica Simpson plan that her trainer put her on to get in shape for her wedding. 800 cals a day and 2 hours of workout. I have done this before and had great results. I got away from my healthy eating and exersize when I was in an abusive relationship and hated my job and my whole life basically and gained 20 pounds over 3 years. I am happy now with the man of my dreams and my own thriving business that I love. Getting married April 2012 but I want to lose 20 lbs by summer so my man can admire me in a bikini for once

I lost weight before why cant I now. I wouldnt be even worried about it but im trying to join the army and need to get my BMI down a little and thought that this would help :/ but it seems to be getting me no where this time any suggestions??

I prefer Medifast
Slimfast gives me unbearable stomach cramps. I think it is the sugar alcohol in them. My solution is to use the Medifast shakes. I buy the powdered one and mix them with water & ice in my little blender I got on the Medifast site. They are tasty, only have 100 calories, are high protein, and best of all, no cramps. They make a great breakfast--very filling since they're high protein and they puff up in the blender. Actually, my favorite shake is a packet of the Medifast "Coffee Soft Serve," blended with 3/4 cup water and 4 ice cubes.

protien/diet "shake" drinks
I have tried every brand on the market and none of them made me feel full-I was always still hungry afterwards. After all, they are just drinks. Does anyone feel full after a glass of water? Only skinny people. I have tried water fasts too & juice fasts- results were not any better than reduced eating.

protien/diet/"shake" drinks
they are just drinks with a LOT of calories in them.
