I'm thinking about inviting my sister to my PT group

but I want to make sure she doesn't think I think she needs to lose weight (although I think she would be happier if she made healthier choices). Any suggestions on how you did this?

Thank you :)

I've invited a few friends to the PT group-- letting them know how things have been helpful to me, and how it's helped me to keep better tabs on my eating and exercise habits... :-)

These friends are all ones who are currently watching their weight, etc...

I've just told them to take a peek and see how they like it before jumping in. (NOt all are comfortable in parading their "inner insecurities" for all to see.)

I did explain to one friend that I've never done anything like this before, but that I like the anonymity of not having to be face to face with other people. The cool thing about PT is that even if you don't join a group, you can put up your own log. :-)

That's true! I never thought of that. you could do a log for yourself. thank you :) I still don't don't know how to approach. I don't want to offend. I think i'll talk about the fun aspect.

I had the same with my mother, although I did know that she was trying to lose weight. I just told her about it conversationally, as in "you know what I did last week? I joined this online community, it's really great, I like this, this, and this. It's basically annonymous, and it's a great place to log my workouts, etc." Then at the end, I was like - "do you want to check it out? I'll send you the link."

My one friend is truly apprehensive and very sensitive about being "public" with her weight. I talked to her about how "ashamed" I was about my weight, but that I finally got the guts to say to myself, this is what I NEED to do to get myself to where I want to be...

She's still reluctant, but I told her about the support, and to maybe try "lurking" (not necessarily getting into a group) to see what others have to say. I also stressed to her that it is okay not to make your posts "public" if you are not comfortable with that. I told her I would be as supportive as possible.

Have shared with her some of the tips I've learned from others here. I know that she's been trying to lose weight and I am sensitive to her situation. It's a tough thing to have to self-examine....

Hopefully, she will take a moment to look around the site, and see how helpful it is-- it IS nice that you can be anonymous-- with an onscreen name, you don't even have to pick anything that would identify you!
