Fun Exercise
Hi all. I love to exercise, but I'm looking for different ways to work it into my life. Team sports are getting harder to keep in my routine, and gyms bore me to tears. I'd like to try something new.
What do you do for exercise? Traditional exercise, hobbies, whatever gets you going-- please share!

I horseback ride 4-6 times a week. I'm not talking about trail rides, I'm talking about serious riding (fox hunting, cross-country, dressage). I have legs of steel. I love it, and I don't consider it exercise at all, but it helps keep me very fit.

I take a Pole Dance class once a week. Most major cities have at least one dance studio that offers this. I have always had little to no upper body strength but since I've started taking the class 5 months ago, it've noticed a huge difference. Any dance class really would be good, you have fun, learn something new, and hardly notice you are getting a good burn until your pants are loose.

HULA HOOPING!
It's becoming more available in cities, and it's so much fun. I was a horrible hooper as a child, but I can use the weighted hoop for an hour or two. And man do I feel it! :)

weighted hula hoop
I bought a weighted hoop but got horrible bruises all over my waist!! Do you wear major padding?? I thought it was a great idea and I'd still like to use my super expensive hula hoop. Any suggestions?

hooper here (I was the first hoop poster)... you might bruise for the first week or so. I still bruise when I learn a new trick, but for the most part, my abs don't bruise at all anymore. My 'weighted' hoop is only a couple pounds; however. I know there are some out that are 4+ pounds, and that may make a difference. The place I hoop doesn't recommend that heavy as we do 'off-body' tricks and dance moves and it's hard to neck-hoop with 4 pounds. :) I don't wear padding, although occasionally afterwards I need a bandaid to avoid irritating a blister on my hand. It seems like when I hoop in a tank top and loose pants I'm most comfortable and less likely to bruise. Also, your hoop should sit just below your bellybutton, and not spend most of it's time on your ribs. That helps with the bruising too.... I hope that helps. Let me know if you have questions...

Bikram yoga all the way! I also love to run, once your stamena is built up its more of a sight seeing tour. Bikram is great to avoid injuries and build stamena.

I work out at the gym so the weather doesn't affect me.
But if someone works out on their own, their living room is always toastie. Plus there is a thread about jogging in the winter and what to wear on here to help keep us all jogging through the long cold winter into the spring.

Hiking. I go to a local state park and local conservation lands. Also, in the winter I snowshoe (easy and FUN...just put them on and walk) and cross country ski.
