Workout tips

I posted this for a group member and was asked to post this to the communtiy:

1. Don't follow the conventional 15 reps 3 sets thing. Do as many reps as it takes to feel the burn. Your body will not change if you do reps without feeling the burn (I see it all the time at the gym and it drives me nuts!). Once you start to feel the burn, do at least five more reps. If you find you can do 30 or more reps, next set increase the weight a bit. I sometimes do reps of 25 or 27. It really gives you the nice lean look. Do at least two sets, three is always better but sometimes I can only get through two.

2. Free weights are almost always better than machines because you can isolate the muscle more efficiently if you do it right.

3. Lunges are the key to sexy legs! They work your quads, butt, calves and hamstrings and all you need is space to walk! Or, if you don't have much space, stationary lunges work as well (walking lunges are more challenging). If you want more of a challenge, grab 5pd or 10pd dumbells, it really makes a difference.

4. Last but not least - Women do not "bulk up" when they weight lift (by doing reps of 15 or more). It's a myth, but a very dangerous one since it keeps many women from lifting weights. Lifting helps prevent again osteoperosis among other things. Plus, it's a really exciting feeling when you start to see your body shape up. It's just as exhillirating as losing pounds if not more!

Happy Lifting!
