Feeling old and unaccomplished
Okay, I know that right off the bat some people will be upset that I said that I am feeling old and unaccomplished when I am ‘only’ 30. But there you go, that is how I feel, and that’s that.
I am in graduate school, my husband is thinking of going. We have some retirement, no debts, no kids, and a home, but still no extra expendable income or solid careers. My husband and I have chosen not to have kids until we are more settled, but 30 seems to be the age when people love to tell you about age related birth defects and how ‘your not getting any younger’.
I just thought by 30 I would resemble something like my parents whether I really wanted it or not (kids, house, suits) or otherwise be living the free and easy no kids life and have a great career or something. But really, things are basically the same as when I was working on my undergrad 10 years ago (no time, no money, no travel, no decent furniture). At least my friends with kids have a reason to have no money or time, I just feel like I screwed up somewhere. My friends without kids have great careers and bodies and interesting stories about Europe, and my friends with kids have their family life. I somehow have the middle of both. It isn’t really about the money, more just about what I thought my life would look like and how I feel really behind the game.
Anyone get what I am saying? Any words of wisdom?
