my mom thinks i'm crazy.

so here's the deal. i moved out last march (i was 18) with 2 girls who i thought were my good friends. i worked with one of them, and we came home from work one day, to a note on the wall from our roomie that she "couldnt live like this anymore" and bailed on us. a week before rent was due. she blocked both of us from her phone and we couldnt get ahold of her. i could only afford my part of the rent, and sam, my roomie, couldnt even afford her part of the rent. both of us didnt want to move back home, so i decided to write a check from my ex-step dad's check book to pay for the rent that month (without asking). a few weeks later, he found out, and everything was chaotic for a while. but i'm in the process of paying him back, i moved back home to save money, and i want to start school in the fall.
my mom thinks i need to stay home and work until i pay him back completely. i think thats retarded, because i have been looking forward to going to this school (its out of state) all my life and she wont let me go! i would have a job while going to school, and still make monthly payments to my ex step dad, so i dont see what the big deal is.
she thinks i need to stay here, at home, be miserable with a full time job, and pay off all my debts.
another thing, she thinks i do drugs and party every weekend because i have gauged ears. she has a problem with image, and i often find google searches from her that say "why does my daughter dress like a hooker" and "[my boyfriend's name] rumors".
so here's what i'm trying to get at:
since when did money/being controlling freak come before my happiness/education?!

is that too much to ask?
or am i being a selfish teenager?

i just want to be independent and not rely on my mom for everything.
