Sore hips!

After walking quite a bit, I recently started running. Today I ran 3 and a half miles and about halfway through my hips started hurting like crazy. I walked for a bit and then was able to pick up running again. I'm not sure what is causing this. I'm not new to exersize so this shouldn't come as a shock to the body. My shoes are fairly new and so far the best I've ever had. Anyone else going through or experienced this? I am having a physical in about 2 weeks and plan to bring it up to my physician, just thought I'd get some early advice! Thanks a bunch!!

It's hard to explain hip pain, so I don't know where exactly you might be having it.

I have bursitis, and stretching is what helps the most. The pain feels like a tightness when I run, and sometimes like my leg is going to break (slight exaggeration) if I turn the wrong way.

For me, stretches for my outer thigh are most helpful. You can google image search for some diagrams.

I'm not the OP but thanks for that link -- I think these exercises / stretches will really help me.

OP here. Thanks for the link! I will try those exersizes before I run and see if it helps. The pain is at the hip bone and extends probably 6 inches straight downward. As a matter of fact, it has bothered me all day and if I lay down and cross my feet, it is really painful. I'm just hoping it's not something serious and I can work through it.

I get a lot of hip pain right in the front of my hip just below where the hip bone potrudes when running 4+ miles. Here is a stretch that helps me a lot.

talked to a trainer

talk to a trainer they can show you a few stretches to do. Use a resistance band and lift leg up like stepping over a can stretch leg outward to take a side step and then put foot down. Make sure band is a decent resistance. Need to stretch it and strengthen it. Hips are part of our core.
