My psychological strategy and breakthrough
Ok, I wanted to share this with you all - you never know, it might inspire!
I've had a massive breakthrough, I've finally realised how to feel hungry! Not thinking I'm hungry, but feeling it.. and knowing when it's not there too.
I've heard it time and time again that we should only eat when we're hungry and that just because it is meal time doesn't mean we should necessarily eat. We condition ourselves to thinking we should eat at certain times and events even when we're not hungry at all!
So I decided to make myself a "Question chart" to determine whether I was actually hungry or not, and hung it over the fridge (sadly the most frequently visited place in my home).. it had one question.. "Are you REALLY hungry?" I put four choices under it: 1. Yes, actually - and about to eat myself out of house and home; 2. A little bit, but dying to eat something huge and unhealthy; 3.Not really, but definitely willing to eat something yummy; 3. Not at all - but still gravitating towards the kitchen!
After the four choices there was advice: 1. Ok, eat something small and planned, watch portion size! 2. Have a glass of water, then a piece of fruit or raw veg, write down how you're feeling and why you want to eat something huge; 3. Have a warm tea (herbal preferably) and get yourself out for a short walk or on the bike; 4. Get out of the kitchen!! You have no reason to be here, get out and do some exercises.. walk, run, weights, bike ride.. anything!
It seems a bit long-winded and obvious too.. but just seeing my own advice to myself has been really helpful.. today was the first day I woke up and asked myself if I was really hungry before making breakfast and my answer was amazingly "No, actually I'm not!!!" I then left the kitchen without even thinking about going back... there is food there if I want it but I'm not hungry!
It feels great!! (oh sorry if this is a bit long and garbled - just wanted to get it out!!)
