Comparing Goals

Over the past 6 years I have been slowly but steadily gaining weight to where I am a size 14 now. I feel huge. I'm the biggest I've ever been and my bmi was in the obese category. Over the last two weeks I have been working to lose this weight to get back in the "normal" category. I've lost 6 pounds but am still in the very overweight section (and this isn't due to muscle or bones, I really am just big).

It bothers me when I talk about my goal to get healthier and people who are bigger than I am tell me that I'm being silly. That I'm so small. Or that I don't need to lose weight. They are comparing themselves to me and perhaps a size 14 would be a goal of theirs. Something they would feel good about. But it's not a healthy weight for me, so why do they think they should discourage me?

Ideas?
