11/10 tip for the day
I am confused by this heading " Prevent Deficiencies with Plant-Based Nutrition" over its following paragraph:
As seemingly healthful as one's diet may be, disease, accelerated aging, or even death can occur if that person is missing B12, vitamin D, or any other individual nutrient. For example, one well-known advocate of a fruit-based, raw-food diet, died in his sixties of a vitamin B12 deficiency. The B12 deficiency leads to high levels of homocysteine, which can destroy the heart and blood vessels, even while the person eats an otherwise excellent vegetarian diet. This part of the Tip is no tip that is helpful.
The heading seems to say that you can prevent deficiencies by eating a plant based diet, yet the paragraph goes on to state that isn't so.
Then in the rest of that info under that heading there is nothing that tells me specifically how to avoid these deficiencies. It talks about "power of plant-derived phytochemicals to affect health. Phytochemicals, along with the rich assortment of powerful antioxidants found in unrefined plant foods, fuel a defensive system that removes toxic cellular metabolites that age us. Phytochemicals also are required for maintenance and repair of our DNA." But, there is nothing further about how to avoid the deficiencies that can kill EVEN WHEN A HIGH PLANT DIET IS CHOSEN! Please, I come to peertrainer to straighten out all the conflicting info out there...but today I am as frustrated as ever with this conflicting info.
