Food combinations???

there is a book out there (written in the 70s i think) that soemone recommended me, but i dont remember what is it. It explains how to properly combine food since out stomachs digest different things at different speeds. for example, dont eat fruit less than a half hour before protein or less than 3 hours after because fruit takes a half hour to digest (most of it) and protein takes about 3 hours. so while the proteins are digesting fruit will just stay in your stomach and make you gassy/turn to fat..... anyone ever hear of this? supposedly the reason so many people have tough times losing wieght is because we combine the wrong foods.... any comments?
