Our Culture makes us fat and then makes us feel bad about it

We are often made to feel bad about our lack of self control. Self control of course is a good thing, but people don't realize that portion sizes have gone through the roof since the early development of fast food in the 1950's. For example, A large coffee at McDonalds as recently as the early 80's is probably smaller than Starbuck's current offering. You see a similar trend across the board.

When I say culture, thats a combination of a lot of things- corporate business practices, the importance of ease of use and efficiency. But the net result is that maybe the deck is really stacked against us.

Then you combine this with a relentless media culture that celebrates skinny celebrities, and you have an almost shizophrenic contrast that is making people feel horribly about themselves.

I'd be curious what others think, about this.
