Where did we learn these habits?

Over the weekend I went off my diet and binged on high cal crap...once I was finished eating I felt horrible and have been feeling horrible since. Today I'm back and feeling a little better. It gets me to thinking though...
why do we continue to behave in ways that primarily make us feel bad? I know that in the momemt a bag of cookies is wonderful but once its done its 10 times more upsetting than it was wonderful. And who here doesnt actually enjoy the taste of something with nutritional value...may it be berries, veggies and humus, eggs, chicken whatever...why dont we choose those things that wont make us unhappy?
When we were kids I'm sure there was a time maybe with grandparents or at a friends house that we all had the opportunity to eat all the candy we wanted and got sick from it, learning not to do it again. We learn that if you play with fire you will get burned....so why do we torture ourselves? I hope this post isnt sounding too judgemental...I'm just wondering everyones thoughts. Is food like a drug?
