I don't want to work out
I've been doing really well . . . but I don't feel like working out today. What do you do when you are feeling like this. How do you get yourself to work out?
Thu. Feb 9, 7:21pm
I've been feeling the same way this week. I DREAD starting my work outs, and I'm so relieved when they are over. The only thing that has been keeping me going is that it is an integral part of my routine, and I am a person who really likes to stick to a routine.
Try putting your exercise clothes on. Tell yourself you're just putting them on, and you don't have to workout. When I do this, once I have them on and sit around in them for a while, I always feel silly just taking them off without actually exercising.
Also, tell yourself you'll just do 10 minutes. And if you feel like stopping after 10 minutes you can. Most likely you'll keep going, but if not, at least you'll have gotten in 10 mins of exercise today!
good luck!

Thank you - I put on my workout clothes and got in a good 25 min. of dancing with a brazilian dance video. I feel great. The workout was pretty fun, and I feel really good about myself.

If you are in the 'Habit' of working out and have been doing so for at least a year, then I would say if you dont want to workout dont. I know I do not force myself to go the gym, If I dont want to go, I dont. That way, when I do go (on average, 3-5 days a week at the gym) it is alot more fun.
One thing I have learned in the 5 years I have been working out, is that I must do it in the morning, I get up and put my workout clothes on, and I give myself 30 mins to get out of the house, I grab a quick bite, and my coffee, and I am out the door. If I dont, I will find many things to keep me busy, laundry, dishes, homework etc.
good luck, and remember not to be too hard on yourself

What works for me is not to think too much about it. If you do, you can talk yourself out of doing it. Just put your clothes on and get started because you will always feel better afterwards. Good luck and definately stick with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps you should try a different type of exercise.
Afterall, this should be fun. There are some days where just getting out the door is a struggle, but if it's every day, maybe you should try a different activity.

Try something different. Exercise at a different time of day perhaps, perhaps it's either too soon after you ate or you need a little food to pick you up. We all have times when we are dragging. I could never get myself to exercise in the AM, just hate it, but evening is OK. Maybe you need something more convenient - like a tape at home, or a walk at mid-day if you're at work. Good luck!

I don't look at it as working out. I have three kids and I look at it as "mommy time". This is something that I do everyday just for me. I have a treadmill and a recumbandt bike so I can watch TV or read while I am exercising. I also have videos I can do on days when I don't feel like using a machine. I see my exercise time as my personal improvement time:o)

Motivation
I told my boyfriend that i have lived for a year with what to say to me when i don't feel like working out. Its kind of cheesy but it seems like he is the only one that can push me enough because he listens to me and he does not stop bugging me untill at least i put in an hour. But I also use my old pictures for motivation because i have lost 40 pounds in the last 6 months and i was so unhappy then. So whenever he is not around then i just pull out those pictures and i hop right into it because i get disgusted hope that helps a little

Put on some good music that you like and dance around. That's what i do and it lifts your spirits at the same time.

What I've always heard and used MANY times....if you don't want to work out commit to working out for 5 minutes. If after 5 minutes you still don't want to - DON'T. But most of the time you will find that you are willing to keep going. It is a little thing that works miracles.

my IPod is my secret to staying fit
I wouldnt work out if it weren't for my Ipod.
Also I read that buying a new workout outfit can be helpful.
Change what you doing. Go to a class. Work out at home or outside rather than going to a gym.
Positive self talk helps a lot. Visualization does too. Say an affirmation to yourself while you are running or visualize yourself accomplishing a future goal.
Put your emotions into the workout. I know that sounds so bizarre but, I was never into running and then I got my heart broken by this guy and lost my job in the same week. I sat around feeling sorry for myself for about 2 weeks and then I said screw this and starting running like a maniac. I made a program and read all about marathon training and commited myself to that. While I ran, I felt so empowered because I was in charge again. I would visualize all of my pain sort of vaporizing off of me.
That was the most amazing way to deal with grief that I have ever experienced and probably the least destructive one for me. Learning how to let your workout be your therapy will make it vital and less dreadful.
