HELP me.. Transition from FINE to Toned :(

Hey everyone im a really fit person i used to run 5 miles every day until i found out i have scoliosis and i was wondering im a slim person and i have never really lifted weights i have been attempting for the past 6months working out and lifting i have seen SOME results but due to my back problem i dont use free weights im on Machines.. I really want to start being serious about being cut and muscular (not too muscular) if anyone has some wise words and some detailed advice please help thank you.
