Water intake...does the time frame matter?

I know its important to keep your body hydrated and get enough water through the day, and its also a good way to avoid eating when not hungry.
But sometimes at the end of the day I realize I havent consumed enough water at all! Obviously the key is to be more persistent about it, but I was just wondering: On the eveniings that I realize I'm dehydrated, I'll drink maybe a liter and a half of water in 45 minutes...Is this harmful? or is it good that I'm rehydrating and making sure I get enough water?
