pictures - a life lesson

My 7th grade son had to take pictures for his school assignment, after a long day he told me one of the pictures he would like to take is my portrait.
Uhggg I thought, my make up is worn off, I look fat, etc..... I thought what the heck let's take a picture like he always sees me, as I really am most of the time.
When he looked at it on the computer he said "you look pretty", I tried to look at it with his eyes and not all my personal judgements against myself. And for the first time in a long time, I think I really saw myself differently - I thought I do looked Pretty, not has horrible as I imagined. I looked relaxed and happy, smiling at my son. Why am I so hard on myself, why don't I see myself as my son does, it was a really nice moment.

So sweet...you made me cry. Yeah I remember seeing my mom that way when I was a kid. I am sure she was tired with all of us. We need to remember that our loved ones frequently see "pretty." Makes all the difference in the world.

it's not always what's on the outside that makes us moms pretty. I am not an attractive woman, but my children (ages 8 and 7) constantly tell me I'm and say "you're the best mom". If you treat them well (and it sounds like you do OP), that makes us more beautiful in their eyes inside and out.

I know I always think everything needs to be perfect before I will let a picture be taken too. But the truth is some of my most favorite pictures have been those unposed, unexpected pictures when you see someone for who they really are.

What a wonderful thing for you to be able to experience how someone who truly loves you, sees you. That is beautiful.

My mom was sick 2 years ago with that flesh eating disease and she was in the hospital for 31/2 months. And I still remember when I would go and visit her and at the time she was completely out of it and looked worse than I had ever seen her look and yet all I could keep telling her was how beautiful she was.
And she is. She is the most beautiful woman I have ever known.
Partly looks, she is nice looking but her heart and her generosity and her love. That is what radiates from her and makes her so beautiful.
I am so glad that you could see what your son sees in you even if only for a little while. What a great mothers day gift.
