Anonimity
Why is this community anonymous?
I find it leads people to say some of the most offensive comments. If it weren't anonymous people wouldn't be so quick to say something rude for kicks. I've tried asking about it before but no one seems to know.
Why not become known for being really helpful and wise if it's a community? I'm not even sure it should be called a community sometimes. It would be like if everyone in your life just put bags over there heads and you couldn't tell one from the other and no one was worried about destroying their reputations so they just acted as they pleased.
I think it's so that people can ask stupid or embarrassing or obvious questions without being ridiculed. If that's the case why not just make it an option for the posters of the questions?
Every other forum I've ever been a part of uses screen names.
How does everyone else feel about it? Does anyone know why it's like this?

Spelling.
Arg. I just realized I spelled anonymity wrong. Sorry about that.

It's a double edged sword. I like the anonymity becasue I can post questions about things I would never want to share with those who know me.

I love the anonimity for a million reasons. It is great !

I've never seen anything REALLY offensive in here...
and then people can just say what they want which is perfect.

Well I have seen some really hurtful things in here. To the point that I almost quit peertrainer. I tend to be rather sensitive anyway but you don't know who you are talking to when You reply to someone and as I said some of the things were truly awful. If I weren't afraid of hurting the people they were written to I would link them.
Even over 6 months later and I still hurt for the people they were spoken to.
I do still think though that we need the ability to ask whatever question we would like without having to worry about who may know us.
I guess really there are pros and cons.

Search the forum for "anonymous" - you'll get half a dozen similar discussions including the one I've attempted to link below, which was posted by PT ages ago.

Like fresh food, I prefer 'fresh' discussions.
Even though some people may not post b/c anonymity was lacking, I think the overall feel to these message boards would be much more fun and positive if our screen names were attached. Of course, just having a moderator would help keep us children in line when things get out of hand would help, too. I checked out The Daily Plate the other day, and the difference in the kind of feedback people got seemed a lot more civil and positive (even if different opinions were expressed.)
