Drop weights to lose FINAL weight ? ?

I do about 6 sets of medium heavy weights before my run in the morning Mon.-Fri.

So if I am at the final stage of my diet and need to lose the last five pounds should I drop the weights from my morning routine for a few weeks??

I know they say lifting burns more extra calories throughout the day as the body repairs itself (as opposed to cardio which burns more at the time of exercise), but I don't care to gain muscle wieght just now... I just want to lose weight and that is all - will lifing help me to lose weight AT THIS POINT? or not?

Thoughts? Opinions?

Why does the number mean so much?

I definitely understand not caring about muscle and being willing to forgo it to focus on other health and fitness goals. But I'm not sure what purpose the "just wanting to lose weight" serves: if what you really want is to lose size, I don't think muscle deterioration will help that goal. So what does the number mean to you?

If you want the psychic boost of finally hitting that goal weight, I know for me, the boost would mean so much more if I reached it without taking any sort of "short-cut" measure -- even if it took two more weeks to get there.
