I say bite the bullet, suck it up, and tough it out for a few days - then it's done. Your cravings will reduce drastically. The more you feed it, the more you fuel it. Change your mindset around it, too. If all you think is "I can't have it" then you'll just want it more and more and more. Tell yourself, "I can have it. I can eat whatever I want. I'm choosing not to. Maybe tomorrow."

allow yourself a little bit. I find people are a bit too restrictive on themselves, thus craving/needing/wanting it even more.

I'm an ice cream lover, so what I did is bought those dryer's dibs or whatever, and whenever I crave ice cream, I allow myself like five or six, rather than a whole serving.

You can do that with anything, just have a couple tastes and then you'll be satisfied, and don't have like 20 "tastes" a day. Just one or 2.

Have you tried fruit? If i really want sugar an orange or apple or melon or pineapple or any really sweet fruit helps a lot. no calorie drinks with artificial sweetener also help.

Addicted to sugar

I recommend the book--The Sugar Addict's Total Recovery Program--It is really working for me, particularly the potato (!?) at night. Good luck--Flexi

when you want sugar drink lemonade

Make a big bowl of lemonade and make it sweet with splenda for beberages,or whatever substitute of sugar you use when you get the crave drink slowly this sweet drink and it also will help you a lot with not felling hungry, tomatoe juice does that too, but if either way you can't figth is maybe it means your anxious so don go for sweets do something you has posponed or walk a little with your favorite music is better, go out withot money so you won't stop to buy water and ending buyin sweets, make an effort organize everything in your home and for your sake don't buy sweets keep the temptation far away.
best of lucks.

Sugar Addict

Ask yourself.....why do you like sugar? What's your answer? You don't really know do you? You might say "it taste good". Do you know that sugar becomes an acid in your body? It also has been suggested that sugar might cause cancer. When they check for cancer in your body the doctors inject a sugar solution into your bloodstream and all the little cancer cells get so excited. That's how they determine if you have cancer. Think about that the next time you want that bowl of ice cream. Try this the next time you want some ice cream.....put four tablespoons of unsweetened cranberry juice in a glass..add some ice cubes and fill with water. Sip on this.......Not only will it help your urinary tract, but it might keep those inches off your waist.

I'm a big proponent of just stopping the giving in,but to each their own. If you are going to eat your sugary treats, make yourself sit down, without distraction, and focus totally on the food. Chew slowly, put your fork or food down between bites, savor it. It's really hard to go overboard if you're being mindful. Then maybe you can have your sweets and not trigger binges.

Is it just a craving? Since you said you get the shakes, make sure it's no a blood sugar problem. I've read that eating salty foods can make you crave sweet, and vice versa. Try increasing your protein, or try the amino acid supplement L Glutamine.

I can certainly identify. What's helped me is living the "South Beach" lifestyle. Since I've changed my eating to include natural, whole foods, not only have my sugar cravings vanished, but so have ALL other cravings. I feel better than I have in years and am losing weight to boot!!! I realized after reading the book, that my intake of too many of the wrong foods was creating a vicious cycle for me. I was always hungry, always craving something, and this in turn led me to eat more and more of the wrong kinds of foods. Hope this helps.

AGAVE NECTAR

It's like honey, but has a low glycemic index, which means it won't give you the sugar highs and lows.

If you're getting the shakes, you may want to talk to your doctor and find out if there is something else wrong with you....

Quitting "cold turkey" may not be easy, but one thing that may help is to real labels on EVERYTHING you buy-- i.e. choose breads that are made WITHOUT sugar, look for other alternatives such as fresh fruits instead of refined sugar/high fructose corn syrup flavored cookies and snacks...

As you start cutting things out of your diet, it will get easier and easier-- it's just like sodium, though--lots of things have hidden sugars in them, but if you start training your palate away from the extremely sweet stuff, it will eventually get adjust.

In regards to sweets-- are you getting shakes from chocolate withdrawal? My friend (a doctor) advised me that because caffeine occurs in chocolate, when she stopped eating it, she would get headaches... it took a little while, but she quit cold turkey and now she hardly eats it at all...
