What DID NOT work? What is working now!
Have you fallen for an infomercial, or weight loss scam? Have you paid way to much for a piece of equipment that did not live up to its hype? What was it how did you resolve the problem? What are you doing now that works to help you acheive your goal?
Those of you with the flat answer of diet and exercise, let us in on what you consider a diet and what type of exercise you are doing. I would also like to see how long it took to see the first 10 pounds slip away!

I tried Cylarius- did nothing but give me an upset stomach. I find that I do so much better if I just monitor what I eat. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and try to stay away from a lot of carbs and fats. I have lost about 16lbs since right after Christmas. I watch what I eat and I go to the gym daily. For me that is really the only thing that works.

I think in the past I've tried just about every diet pill and gimmick out there, guess what... they don't work! LOL! I've also tried really restricting myself and that works to a point, then doesn't anymore. What I'm now doing is eating every few hours and that has REALLY helped rev up my metabolism. I lost about 24 pounds since the beginning of Nov., even through the holidays and a vacation. I also work out hard, just about every day of the week. some weeks I will take one day off but I'm pretty regimented with it and tough on myself if I don't. the last thing that helped me was realizing working out in the fat burning zone is not the answer, switch it up and do interval training. this too has been a big benefit to me.

Stairclimber that gave me muscle but and caused the thing to get even bigger.
Vegetarianism works for me. I have lost 10 pounds in the past month and that is more then I have ever lost in a month.

Doesn't work - alli; any pill that says "you don't need to be hungry to lose weight", too much weight lifting
Works - diet rigidity, running, caffeine, Synephrine (bitter orage), Hydroxycut Hardcore, High protein, low carb, veggies; minus 1 hour of sleep and plus one hour of running.
I can lose that first ten pounds in a week if I go hardcore...

Definitely not South Beach or Atkins long term. They are great to get the scale moving, but they don't really teach you how to eat in the real world.
I've done WW with great success. It's also helpful if you need a bit of a guide to keep you on track. sometimes just telling yourself you're not going to eat this or that doesn't work.
Strength training with cardio works every time!
Tuesday, April 1, 2008, 2:10 PM
What works for me, consistently:
eating:
under 1500 calories, at least 90% healthy foods, logging EVERY bite
vegetables, vegetables, vegetables
exercise:
strength+cardio, interval training
first 10 pounds:
really depends how much you weigh to start with. The heavier you start, the faster they go away. I started at 150 and it took about four weeks. Now I'm 120 and the last six came off over 5-6 weeks.

ha ha this is funny, I want to hear some - "I bought the suzanne sommers thigh squeezer but still gained weight somehow" stories...

Okay, have you seen those pills at osco / walgreens "AMAZING apple cider vinegar weight loss pills"
Wow, you would have to have the IQ of garden tools to buy that when there is a bottle of apple cider vinegar on the shelf for 99 cents.
Funny enough - the "vinegar trick" actually works for me to cut the hunger - 2 tablespoons vinegar with 12 oz water at 3pm when I am at my weakest.

2:32...Fergie does that too and look at her..
I haven't tried it but I will now

I have a thigh master in my closet.

Hydroxycut back in the days when it had ephedra - no obvious effect on weight loss, but it did make me jittery so who knows, maybe I burned a few extra calories wiggling my feet and tapping my pen.

Herbalife, circa 1998.
Expensive, and only worked for 15 lbs, which was about 1/4 of what I needed to lose. Then I hit a wall and quit after a month of wasting my money on those stupid supplements and barely-palatable shake mixes.
Tuesday, April 1, 2008, 4:03 PM
Synephrine, and ephedra have the main effect of kicking your cardio to level 11 making you burn about 3,000,000 calories in the gym
- I was giving a presentation in a college class when I was on ephedra - back in 98' - and I am pretty sure I acted like I was all hopped up on 14 grams of speed - Wow - I covered a lot of ground ! ! Very embarassing when I thought about it afterwards. Whoops!

I miss Metabolife. It was the only supplement that ever did a thing. Of course, the risk of massive coronary was the down side. But man I looked great!

I learned from my obese grandmother who turned her expensive exercise bike (from the 1970s, when these things were in their infancy) into a laundry basket and my father who was convinced that a Bowflex could provide sufficient calorie-burning to lose weight that pricey gadgets were worthless. So I've got a $20 fitness ball and a $25 pyramid of dumbells...and I really do use them when I don't have the time or the inclination to leave my home.

I'm gonna try this stuff.

Looks good. The description is pretty friggin' funny:
USES: For individuals committed to getting inhumanly shredded. Arson™ is a legally insane fat burner, conceived by a radical team of scientists to force your bodyfat into a state of total meltdown.* When other attempts to get shredded have failed, Arson™ is your only option. Hybridized from rare fat burning compounds and extreme blood-boiling reactive substances, Arson™ destroys fat. After a single oral dose, severe thermogenesis is ignited. Your body has no choice but to reach its fat burning flash point. The extremely potent Arson formula causes such shocking results that you will literally look like a walking anatomy chart.*
Notice to User: By applying the latest advancements in nutramolecular theory, MAP scientists developed Wave Pulse Technology™ - designed to take advantage of, and improve upon, dynamic nutrient transport. Years ahead of its time, this patent-pending, groundbreaking innovation leverages a precise portion of strategically scaled molecular compounds engineered to invade your body in a rapid chemical priority. This delivery system is not a time-released process. Wave Pulse Technology™ is built to initiate rapid delivery to obliterate fat and expose striations and muscularity you never knew you had.*
Caution: Keep out of reach of housewives, part-time bodybuilders, and aspiring actors/models. Do not store or use any flammable, combustible, or corrosive substances in the vicinity of this product. Never take more than the recommended dose. Do not use for toning, sculpting, leaning out, or "dropping a few pounds."

That is too funny! I especially love the 'keep away from aspiring actress/models' line.

Yeah, you should see the magazine ads, they get some huge bodybuilder who looks like he is being strapped down and forcibly injected with enough steriods to kill a clydesdale to give the camera this, "I am confused because I feel at the same time afraid of these crazy experimental drugs they are giving me and yet filled with testosterone filled rage" look. Weird !
