So what is a vegetable, anyhow?

When I was a little girl, I thought I knew what a vegetable was. At that time we still had the 4 basic food groups (not the food pyramid), and vegettables were one of those groups. They included things like potatos, corn, green peas, etc. But as I got older, I was told that potatos and corn are not vegetables,.they are starches. I was told that green beans aren't a vegetable, they are a luginue (however you spell that). I was also told that while carrots are a vegetable, but they are a "bad" vegetable that should be avoided because they have too much sugar.

I joined peertrainer yesterday and in their getting started section, they emphasize that we should eat a lot of vegetables. But I am not sure I know what thast means because I am not sure what a vegetable is anymore.

So, what vegetables do you guys eat and successfully loose weight?
