America
There are so many posts on here about how fat everyone is, and how people hate this and hate that....People now-a-days just don't know what they're eating. Part of it is these fast-food restaurants and fatty foods...people complain they don't have the time to make their own breakfast, cook their own food. Where would you be if there was no fast food on the way to work/school? You'd be mighty skinny b/c you wouldn't be able to eat all the unhealthy crap thats out there and one way or the other...you would be cooking your own food. You would make time for better foods choices. I don't see how people can look at how many calories are in a flippin hamburger covered in grease and not be totally grossed out. Isn't over half of America obese? The government should do something, yes, but so should the individual. It is partly the fast-food industry's fault b/c of the food they serve but....you don't have to go to McDonalds. People complain that they can't get a workout in b/c of how busy they are....and I am busy also...but on the days I don't work out I eat less. Thats all you have to do! Pretend these gross "restaurants" don't exist...no matter how "convienient" they are.

AMEN !
Oh man - I hear you OP ! I hear you !
It seems the healthier I eat the crazier the rest of the world seems.
When you realize what healthy eating feels like and looks like and you do it it is like a light comes on and you look around at a looneybin !
Like I am a guy - so if I ate three meals a day they should be like 700 calories meals. So at McDonalds that would be a double-cheeseburger, small fries and light lemonade (make it a water and it's $2)- NO ONE eats like that - they get the Big Mac value meal with a coke - that is like 1100 calories. People eat these 1000 calorie meals and snack and eat candy and chips all day - what the crap YOU ARE KILLING YOURSELF !
And then with quality - you CAN eat fresh fruit and veggies and lean meat and whole grains and fat free dairy and feel FANFRIGGITYTASTIC all day but everyone gets all these white flour transfat high sugar no nutrient foods at home at work on the road and feel gross.
I say spend the same amount of money and eat 50% less food of a higher quality and feel good all life long - why not ? WHY NOT ??

I almost laughed my (fat) ass off when I heard about the woman who wanted to sue McD's for making her obese! Please!! Hey, I'd love to have a Crispy chicken sandwich with 9 lbs of mayo and a supersize order of fries too. It's greasy and it tastes awesome. But I don't because I know what it's going to do to me. People like to blame their lack of self control on the influences around them instead of having any personal responsibility!! "Well I wouldn't have to eat 5 doughnuts every morning if there wasn't a Dunkin' Donuts on every corner!!" How about driving past that Dunkies and buying a piece of fruit instead!!

I have a 3-mile commute to work, and in those 3 miles pass 5 billboards advertising fast food or junk food. If I am driving with the radio on instead of biking, I can count on hearing a few more food ads on my way in. Basically, in less than 10 minutes I can take in 10 advertisements for junk food.
It's not even a problem of consciously resisting the ads -- I think that for many people the problem is even RECOGNIZING them. There's a continual background murmur of "eeeeat, eeeeat, eeeeeat" in all of our lives.

I have a brother-in-law who is over weight, and has high cholesterol he went to his doctor for a check up and his doctor told him that he needed to change his lifestyle and that if he didnt he would surely develop diabetes...well since then he has done NOTHING eats McDonalds atleast 3 times a week and Taco Bell atleast another 3. Not only this, but my neice has been drinking coke since she was oh I dont know 7 months old AND everytime they go to McDeath (McDonalds) they get her anything she wants....can we say childhood obesity?? I just dont get it! I gripe to my husband all the time bc they have no idea what they are doing to their children and themselves by eating this way and NOT exercising!!!! And when I mean not exercising I mean not even walking or playing or anything!! Can anyone understand why this frustrates me?
No I am not a mom yet, but I am hoping that no matter what I will not put this kind of filth in my childrens stomachs!
GRRR!!!!
I hope they dont read this!!!

Why should the government or fast food restaurants be responsible for the decision to eat their crap food? When will people finally start taking responsibility for their CHOICES??? It kills me.
Friday, March 28, 2008, 12:52 PM
THANK YOU!!!! I TOTALLY AGREE!!! GRR It frustrates the crap outta me!
Friday, March 28, 2008, 12:55 PM
12:52 - What?!?!? I have to be responsible for my choices??!? That's no fun
:(

You are right it is individual choice and Yes it is a capitalist society and making a profit is part of our system, but when you realize that your global fast food chain is contributing to epidemic obesity you can do more as a responsible human being - Mr McCEO - to offer some healthy choices for your customers the way McD's did after Supersize Me (well, wait, they were forced by public relations in that case)
Like for example the two McSandwiches for three dollars campain they have going on right now - it is like, "America you are not fat enough - eating two egg mcmuffins will be a great value...be responsible with your money and get another" that is what I am talking about. The person who came up with that ad / marketing campain, did their conscience bother them at all as a human being?
Friday, March 28, 2008, 1:25 PM
1:25 - As I've gotten more conscious about my choices - even if I don't make the right ones all the time - I've come to realize I would never have the stomach to work in the food industry. Creating these foods or trying to come with ad compaigns that target children to eat this stuff - I couldn't sleep at night!
I'm always torn on the argument that people don't have to go to these places or buy these foods - b/c that's absolutely true. Businesses would change and serve better stuff if we demanded it and quit buying the junk. But for anyone who thinks the fast food industry is an innocent bystander to all this - read Fast Food Nation. Eye opening and disgusting!

12:52 you state, "Why should the government or fast food restaurants be responsible for the decision to eat their crap food?"
Government should have nothing to do with it I agree, but...
Think about what you do / make for a living ? Is it something people need at all? I mean - people who make bandaids and wheat germ know they are making something good for people, people who make porn and cigarettes should get a different job and the heads of those companies should find a better way to make a living. Their day to day job hurts people, and that is what the McMarketers do.
NO ONE needs encouragement to eat more Big Macs - encouraging that behavior is harmful to other human beings - these people go to work every day and consider how to psychologically manipulate people who are already eating too much McFood into eating more of it - that is their job and that is an irresposible job to have. Can you argue with that?

Wow, a thread after my own thoughts. I have been b******g on peer trainer for months about the poor food choices people make, and that people eat out wayyyy too much. I would laugh because I would get people who would defend their eating saying that they make "healthy choices".
I am sorry, but with all the information out there nobody can say that eating out isn't bad for you.
Buy groceries, stay home and COOK. Not only is it healthier for you, but you know what you are eating (instead of some guy spitting in your food as he flips your burger), and for the most part it is cheaper.
Sorry no excuses.
