Getting over social embarrassment

I have a hard time getting over my embarrassment when I do something stupid socially, to the point I could happily avoid seeing the people involved ever again. I am not talking about times where you think you did, but it really wasn’t a big deal, I mean the times when it was definitely a faux pas. Like saying you didn’t like a dish at the pot luck, unaware that the chef is within hearing distance. Or, this happens to me when I get anxious, blabbering on and on and not giving anyone else the chance to talk.
Specifically, I think I offended a friend last night when she talked about a family member having an affair and my mouth spoke before my brain could stop it and I said something along the lines of not thinking affairs were okay. My mouth running off without my brain is pretty standard for me *sigh*
So now I haven’t heard from her and I am worried but I do not want to bring it up and I am so tired of always reliving and worrying about all of my social awkwardness!
Any ideas or commiserations?
