Office Cake Bullies

At my office they get big, giant, expensive cakes from a certain bakery in town whenever someone has a special event/birthday/resignation/etc. They ask that everyone pitch in each time for the cake.

I have absolutely no desire to eat cake, each time there is a cake I politely refuse. In the past 2 events, I have not given the amount they ask each employee to give for the cake ($4) because I do not eat it.

When my birthday came around, I asked them not to buy me any type of food but suggested we have lunch together in the conference room (usually everyone eats at their desk randomly throughout the day). I do not want to use food to celebrate my special events. So no one has or will be contributing money to my birthday/events.

Now there is another event, and an email was sent to the department by our supervisor. Our supervisor sent an email stating:

"I know that some of you may not participate in eating the cake but do keep in mind that when you birthday or other special event comes around, we will be celebrating it. Helping out with funds for these things will come back around to you."

I feel this is a passive aggressive attack against me, as I am the only person in the office who does not participate in cake eating. They also tease/poke at me for not joining in when they order greasy fried foods.

There was an article on here that talked about living without apology. I do not feel I need to apologize for not gorging on food with them and I also do not think I should have to pitch in $4 for something I'm not even eating!

What do you guys think? Am I being unreasonable by not pitching in? Should I talk to my supervisor about the email that was obviously addressing me?
