How long does your body retain extra water?
I had a very high sodium day on Wednesday -- consuming about 3000mg. Since then my weight has gone up 1lb on Thursday and now another pound on Friday.
I am drinking plenty of water 64-100oz each day and I am doing one hour of cardio each day, so I would think that I would be able to flush out the salt and let go of this water.
Aside from a water pill and drinking lots of water, does anyone have any suggestions on how I can lose this water weight quick?

OP, thanks for posting - I'm wondering the same thing. I was at 132.6 lbs last Sat. then had chinese food (not in mass quantities, though) that night & leftovers on Sunday. Worked out with 1 hr cardio both days. Scale said 137.8 on Monday a.m.!! Been good all week, worked out 1-1.5 hrs/day and I'm at 134.8 today (so, still retaining). I had heard eating high fiber and cardio should help this drop quickly, but I wouldn't characterize this as quick. I do know that if I avoid processed carbs it water weight drops more quickly (water molecules attach themselves to carbohydrates - thats why folks lose so many lbs in the first few weeks of South Beach diet, etc.) and I admit, while I've kept the cals low this week, I did have whole wheat pasta and cheerios some days...

Everybody is different, some will get rid of water faster than others. Apple cider vinegar is a natural diruretic, and tastes good in a salad dressing. Taking a water pill is not a good idea. I find the retention a good reminder to avoid sodium, if we have an easy way out, we will be less likely to avoid those foods.

OP here
11:42 Poster -What is considered "processed carbs"?
Wow, that is a long time to retain water...so I better hang in there. I was going to have Chinese earlier this week and looked up the calories online and was shocked to find that one meal at PF Changs equals 1100 calories. That's nearly all of my allotted calories for the day. I'm definitely removing Chinese from my diet altogether. I was never a big fan...it was just a "once in awhile" craving thing for me. Thanks for the fiber tip, I'm going to increase my consumption!
12:14 - You are 100% right. I am planning on givign away the CASE of pumpkin seeds that I bought - since they have 814mg in each small pack. Very deceptive since it has only 40 cals per pack.

I know it sounds like an oxymoron but the more water you drink the less you retain. Just food for thought...
They also have "water pills" you can get at Walmart for about $5.00. I drink a ton of water plus take one of these per day.
Good luck!

Unless water weight is a chronic problem, why worry? It'll eventually even itself out, and if you stick with your diet you know you can't possibly be gaining that much weight in a day, so you know your "true" weight is much lower.
Just take a deep breath and soldier on.

Good way to avoid worrying about water retention.
- Drink a minimum of 80 oz of water per day
- Don't add / eat lots of salty foods
- Don't weigh yourself daily...weight can fluctuate quite a bit ... could be as easy as not having had a BM yet..
