Antioxidants... you need them!

Free radicals are the main cause of cancer. You breath them and you eat foods that contain them. In a nutshell, they are basically caused by molecules split with an odd unpaired electron. Free radicals attack the nearest stable molecules stealing its electron. This causes a dominoe effect on other molecules in your body.

How does this effect you? Inflamation in the form of aging that can lead to cancer.

How do we rememdy this? Simply put, Antioxidants. Your body uses them to balance out missing electrons.

Where are simply the best anitoxidants found on earth? Berries!

Berries are the antioxidant super food of the world. The 2 most incredible berries are the Acai and Goji berry. But you can't just go down to the local grocery store and get these, as they are amazon berries. You can buy suppliments or concentrated juices but there is nothing like the real thing.

An alternative to these berries is the blueberry.
When you look at all the fruits and vegetables in the world you should know that the more blue or red the hue, the more power packed the punch in antioxidants.

So in conclusion, its blueberry season and there is no reason you should not add these to your diet. AND....berries score very low on the hypoglycemic index so they won't spike your blood sugar.

Blackberries have actually been proven to have higher antioxidants in them than the blue. Hey just load up on all of them - yum yum.

Blueberry season??!

Northern hemisphere blueberry season is in late June through late July. I'm not sure where you are, Bendage. For those of us in the U.S. the only fresh blueberries available right now are shipped from Chile, with a HUUUUGE carbon footprint and a $5/cup price tag.

Might I note that frozen blueberries have very nearly as many nutrients as fresh, are considerably cheaper, and hold up well upon thawing? I love them in yogurt, SF pudding and in salads. Trader Joe's has excellent quality frozen berries of every type and a very nice mixture of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries - not a bad one in the bunch.

Actually, I buy goji berries at the local bulk store. And I can buy them at my health food store from Navitas.

I put them in oatmeal, muffins, smoothies, or eat them like candy. LOVE THEM.

And did you know, that in one ounce of goji berries there is 4g of protien? That's more than a slice of the turkey bacon I have at breakfast!! (I'm not advocating using goji berries instead of meat, but just saying they are a great snack for many reasons besides the antioxidants)

Here you go!

Get your pure Acai locally...

http://www.sambazon.com/

These guys sell it at health food stores. I read that you will only find it frozen because the berries break down too fast after being picked.

I know for a fact that Mother's Market sells it and I am gonna pick some up tonight.
