what to do with the extra restaurant food

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to handle the extra food you don't want but are tempted by. For example; I ordered chili because I find it good and filling but it came with bread on the dish. I ate it in the end because it was so tempting.
Any tips would be appreciated when food stares at me it's hard not to give in.

Ask for a box when you order and then put 1/2 in it before you even start. My box is my husband, he always eats my food when I'm finished so it's not in front of me!!!

my husband gets made at me for wasting food, but i dump pepper or ketchup all over my food when i feel satisfied. that way i don't eat the rest of it.

If you can, ask for no sides and no bread when you order. The "to-go"box upfront works well when the serving size is too big, also.

I either get a to-go box right away, or I cover the uneaten portion with a napkin. Not being able to see the food works wonders.

Wow, great tips in this thread! I just wave the waiter over and ask them to box it up for me or take it away.

box the other half and give it to a homeless person...i'm sure they'd love the feast...I usually try to find someone with a dog...since I love dogs.

I give my fork to my husband. No silverware = I'm done eating. That wouldn't necessarily work with bread though. It just helps me to stop picking at my food when I'm no longer hungry.

put your utensils handle side into the food, then you won't pick up the dirty fork to have another bite, as far as the bread, just when you are ordering see if you can get a piece of fruit instead, something small, but still satisfying. You are paying for the meal, you have every right to ask for something else.

i rarely take leftovers anymore. i just end up eating it all as soon as i get home. plus, i always either forget the box at the table or drop it or leave it in the hot car. i'd rather pass on the styrofoam too.

but! i will say 'but'. when i do have some good chicken or something, i love to make a meal out of leftovers. mexican over a little spaghetti. add veggies to whatever i have. making a meal out of za meat :)

What a beautiful story on saving leftover food. It was like making the reader dance through the inspiration of your article. Through this inspiration, I would like to include it into time4writing reviews blogs. I am happy about this idea as every day many restaurants have lots of leftover food. I feel it should be donated to needy people who do not have food.
