Mold - not the sexiest topic
I'm not a hypochondriac, but in the last year I've noticed I've been sick more often than healthy - with sinus infections. My house experienced a major leak underneath the crawlspace and I wonder whether I have a mold problem and if that's the reason I'm always sick. Has anyone experienced a similiar situation? My doctor has not been very helpful. Thanks for listening.

absolutely, it can be the reason you are sick. i had an apartment in college that was off the charts with mold. my cat and i were so sick all the time! the mold was growing in the carpet up the corners of the walls. gross, i know. the lease was up in july and the leasing office would have the carpets cleaned between tennants, but they failed to leave windows open or the ac on for them to properly dry. they dried in a closed up space in humid 100 degree temps... it was a swamp. crazy though, the rest of the apartment was fantastic! i complained a lot about it, but they weren't going to put in new carpet til i moved out.
have your home tested for mold spores, hopefully it won't be a costly repair!

DO NOT WAIT
If you suspect mold please take care of it as soon as possible. It is not something to take lightly, it can cause serious health problems and in cases with babies and animals it has been linked to death. I can't stress enough the damage you could be doing to your body staying in a house with mold. And it can't be dealt with on your own, you will need a professional service to come out and assess and take care of it.
And PP you are very lucky you don't have serious problems if your apartment was as bad as you say.

i'm 5:56 and yes, it was actually worse than i had originally described. the carpet was full of spores... my socks would be black from walking around on it too. my cat was always sneezing with a runny nose and i was always very sick with bad allergies. seeing it growing in the corners of the walls, was just disgusting. i didn't realize just how bad it was for me until long after i moved and watched a show on black mold. my kitty and i were very lucky!
OP- please get it looked at, and really i hope the repairs aren't too costly. sometimes they have to gut the entire interior of a home.
