Lane Bryant Tinley Park Memorial Fund

It is so tragic and horrific that the five women were killed at the Lane Bryant in Tinley Park. A sixth woman survived. They were innocently shopping for clothes for new jobs, get togethers and just for fun. And to be terrorized and murdered by such a beast is shocking. I felt stunned because it could have been me or a loved one.

When I saw the following news story about how to help the families of the victims, I thought I should pass it on to the wonderful community at PT.

I cried when I heard about the shooting. They still haven't found the guy. It's so sad for the victims and the families.

Despite the original intention of robbery, there's a little voice in the back of my head whispering "is this a hate crime against fat women?" Scary thought.

I thought the same thing. Women have been victimized for centuries, especially those who don't stay within their "roles". Doesn't the media say our role today is to be young, thin, sexy and available to men? Big women who go out and buy stylish clothes at Lane Bryant are making a statement, "I'm going to be beautiful no matter my size."

I could be totally wrong about this murderer's intentions but my mind immediately played out the scenario above. Thanks for reading my rant.
