i have made some stupid mistakes recently. the post-worry is driving me crazy! i know i should be more careful, but we are just in the moment. plus, i adstained from sex for a long time and i have never been in a long term relationship. i feel like i just discovered this great drug and i want more!!!

i look around and realize lots of people are having sex and often without protection. STDs are a real concern, but do we keep ourselves from having great sex out of fear?

Nope.

We use a condom and some spermicide gel.

Sex is another one of those things where failing to prepare is preparing to fail. Before you find yourself "in the moment" once again, go to a doctor and get tested for STDs. Then either ask the doctor about the Pill (if you are female), which will at least prevent an unplanned pregnancy although it will do nothing for STDS, and/or go buy a package of condoms and keep a couple on hand!

It is possible to have great sex AND protect oneself from most STD's. While no protection is100% perfect, in 20 years of activity I have been neither pregnant nor infected. It does take planning, and effort, and attention to your own health and well-being, though.

now that i am more active, i am realizing i just have to be more prepared for the unexpected. it is my own fault.

the last time i went to the gyno i asked her if i could be tested for an std. she was like, "why?" i explained and she asked if i had any symptoms, i replied, 'no. just unprotected sex.' she sort shrugged, examined me, and when she stood up she told me 'nothing looks catty wacked.' i don't know what the f- she was talking about. is that what an std test is suppose to be like?

Um, no, not at all. An STD test is a blood test. They take your blood and run tests on it.

Except for HPV; that they should check for every time they do a pap smear.

If your gyno has that kind of attitude, it sounds like it's time to find another gyno! He/she should never question why someone wants to be tested, and, then, not even do the test! Most gynos ask right off the bat if you are sexually active, and if you are, suggest that you get an STD test.

I was offered the panel of STD tests along with the rest of the lab work for my annual physical. They didn't even ask if I participated in any risky behavior so it wouldn't come across as judgmental. I said yes even though I knew I was low-risk just because I'd never been tested in my 35+ years and figured it wasn't a bad idea.

3:23 you need to get a new doctor. You have an active role in your health care and if you want to be tested for STD's then your doctor should be fine with that, especially if you've had unprotected sex. And don't forget ladies, when you ask for an STD test that doesn't include Herpes, which is one of the most common STD's around so make sure you ask for that as well.
