Have you been told you look like a celebrity?

And if so, whom?
Were you flattered, or totally depressed?

I posted this in my group, but I thought it would be good to share with others as well...

************************************************

I think I must be finally making some progress in my overall fitness.

Okay, the following is silly, but hey, It made me feel good:

About a year or 2 ago, someone told me I looked Just like Margaret Cho.... I wasn't too pleased because at the time, she was still on the chunkier side of things...(on top of this, my boss & I were at a donut shop)...

Well, a few days ago, a lady told me she though I looked like Michelle Kwan!! Silly isn't it??? I told her I didn't look anything like her, but she insisted that I looked a lot like her. So I decided to thank her for making my day...

(never mind the old "we all look alike" thoughts that flashed in my head for a brief moment...

So, I guess I'm starting to slim down more in the face... and although it's a silly thing, I really felt good to know that I don't look quite as chunky as I did 2 years ago.... :-) And I'm totally honored to look like a world class ice skater (even though I really look nothing like her!)

Now, if someone says I look like Lisa Liu down the road, then I know I will have progressed beyond thin.....

I've been told that I look like Sandra Bullock, which I don't like b/c I think she's kind of odd looking (though everyone else seems to think she's pretty), or Neve Campbell, which I also don't like b/c I think she always looks like she's about to cry!

Funny about the "we all look alike" thing - my fiance (we're both Jewish) is constantly told that he looks like Jerry Seinfeld, Ben Stiller, or various other Jewish actors, but those are the big two! When he starts getting fed up, or just wants to make someone feel uncomfortable b/c it's funny, he'll respond with "Don't you know, all us Jews look alike!" Peoples' reactions are hilarious!

When I was in college (10 years ago) someone insisted I looked like Madeline Stowe. Does anyone even remember her? No one says that anymore! 10 years of marriage, 2 babies and 15 extra pounds will do that to you! :)

I get "a chubby Irish version of Christina Ricci" from a lot of people - huge eyes and big forehead, but not as big as hers. In fact, my dad always said "you've got her big forehead but without the extra advertising space". I felt flattered because I think she's pretty in a slightly unusual way.

One guy said Winona Rider in Beetlejuice, but it had nothing to do with my looks -- he thought I was the type of weirdo who could see ghosts (I was 18, 125 lbs at the time). I felt flattered until he gave his reason.

One catty woman said Kathy Bates, the actress in Misery and Fried Green Tomatoes. I was 26 and 160 lbs at the time. I felt mostly unflattered, though I think she's got a great smile.

Winona Ryder
Liza Minnelli (???)
Kennedy (used to be on MTV)-I'd say I look most like her when I had hair-now my hair is really short, so I probably look more like, oh, I don't know, maybe Moby??? :)

Linda Carter - she played wonder woman. This was one of the best comments I ever had from my then pesky little brother, but it really meant a lot to me.

I used to always get Belinda Carlisle, until I lost about the first 50 pounds. Now I hear Reese Witherspoon at least three times a week.

At my thinnest, a lot of people tell me I look like Witney Houston (healthy pre-Bobby Brown). I take this as a compliment because I think she's pretty when she is healthy.

When I was 18 and little size 3/4 (12 years ago) - one of my customers insisted I looked like "Dixie" on All My Children....

Funny Dixie left for awhile and now it looks like she's gonna be back on All My Children - I'll have to get skinny again so I can see if I still look like her. Weird thing is she's got to be like 10 years my senior so I'm not so sure if it was a compliment or not - LOL!

Renee Zellweger all the way....whether I have been on super slender Renee mode (which looks super unhealthy on her and me) or Bridget Jones. When I drop 10# I will be thrilled to be back in that curvey Bridget size 8/10. But I would like to drop 15-20 altogether.

Mr. Right looks very much like John Cusask when slender but in the heavy zone currently he is the spitting image of Charlie Sheen.

I had someone tell me I looked like Cate Blanchett. I'm still trying to figure that one out: I'm 5' 4", dark-haired, and more muscular than lithe even at my thinnest. WTF?

Everyone tells me i look exactly like Ione Skye (the girl in Say Anything with john cusack). I recently watched it again and for some scenes it actually was frightening! Although when she smiles you can see all her gums... and you can't on me... ha

When I was younger I ALWAYS got Drew Barrymore.
In different cultures I get different things.
France: I get Vanessa Paradis when she's blonde (Johnny Depp's wife)
Latin America: Nicole Kidman
The most offensive to me is the young Anna Nicole- I have gotten that from a couple guys. I AM voluptuous with blonde hair and small face, but yuck!!!

I am 5'9 with small features, I understand all of the above but don't agree. I think I look like me!

Ha! I've been told I look like pretty much every celebrity who has ever had brown hair!
Katie Holmes, Rachel Wiesz, Jennifer Connolly, Drew Barrymore, Kate Winslet, Phoebe Cates, Audrey Hepburn, Natalie Portman, Shannon Doherty... I don't believe any of it because these women are all pretty different from each other apart from the hair colour. I'm flattered by the Audrey/Natalie comparaisons but I think the Drew ones are more accurate as my facial features are not at all refined... although I do have the Audrey eyebrows and I used to have the Natalie pixie cut.

I've been stopped on the street before, someone thought that I was J Lo! I wasn't flattered or depressed, but afraid for my life! The guy went nuts! I've also been told I look like Rudy from the Cosby show??? The best though is being told I look like Vanessa Marcil (Las Vegas)...I don't think so, but hey if someone wants to say I do, I'll take that as a compliment anyday!!!

I've had several strangers over the past 10 years say I looked like Tori Amos - I have thick wavy reddish hair. I guess it's a compliment - she's certainly beautiful in a unique way. I've also heard "a young Sophia Lauren" and Kathy Ireland. (Yes, I have a strong jawline.) Definately not insulted by any of these!

I'll never know...

I was once asked by an elderly woman in a bank in Weston-Super-Mare for my autograph. She was convinced I played someone on Coronation Street (British soap. Pop culture institution with a high white trash factor.). I faithfully watched the show for three torturous days to satisfy my curiosity, all to know avail. Perhaps she was just unbalanced and asked everyone for their autograph.

when i was younger and heavier i got told i looked like Kathy Najimy (Veronica's Closet, Sister Act etc.). I have blond hair, and really, really don't see the resemblance, even looking at old pictures. i had two different people tell me this.

in college, i once had a guy tell me i looked like jewel. i was thrilled but upon later reflection, he probably was just trying to get in my pants. those beer googles do wonders.

now, i get told that i remind people of Ellen Degeneres, or Jenna Elfman (from Dharma & Greg)-i don't really think i look like either of them, i think people just see short blond hair and a little bit of quirkiness and think "oh, Ellen!"

meh

alright so I went on vacation to TN with my in-laws a few years ago and bought a cowboy hat- in which I thought I looked pretty damn cute and my dad in law told me I looked like that "country singer..what's her name- the one who crashed up her car..." me: "wynonna judd?" him: "yeah thats her- you're a spitting image".
Now don't get me wrong Wynonna is an attractive lady- she has sharp features and is a little shall we say hefty- but I reckon I am what could be termed a bit of a chunky gal myself. The thing that depressed me about this wasn't so much that I was being compared to her- but that I was probably being compared to her because I was another fatish pretty girl in a cowboy hat. le sigh. Oh well at least I didnt try on a dashiki my dad in law would have probably told me I was the spitting image of momma cass.
In my thinner days I have been told on numerous occasions that I look a lot like Alley Sheedy- of Breakfast club fame. This isn't a bad celebrity comparison at all.

When blonde and a few year younger I used to get Jewel, Renee Zelweger (and sound like her)-a few other random ones, but those were consistant. Just recently I recieved a comment, from a 20-something girl-my age, that I looked like the star from Grey's Anatomy. I saw all the girls on the show, and I think I know which one she was refering to. I think I see it in the eyes. I love getting told that I look like celebrities!

the only person i've been told i look like is nicole kidman. that only happened twice in my life so far. i don't see it at all, though it's very flattering. i'd probably look more like her if she gained 30 pounds and never had gotten botox.

I guess it's flattering. She's pretty cute. :)

It made me feel totally, utterly depressed. Somebody told me I looked like the Snapple lady on the Snapple commercials from the 90s. You know, the huge fat lady with the frizzy hair? I wanted to die.

That's when I told my doc to wean me off the prednisone and I'd take my chances with the autoimmune inflammation and pain. Then I asked to be weaned off all the other drugs he prescribed for various allergies. At the same time, I started eating more fresh fruits and veggies with whole grains, nuts and seeds while eating smaller and smaller portions of processed foods (basically anything that comes in a package or box and has an ingredient list with more than 3 ingredients on it).

So, a little over a year later I'm 65 lbs lighter just from doing that. But I still have 114 more lbs to get rid of to get back to where I was before the diagnosis and all the crap prescriptions (along with crappy food choices) made me gain weight.

Now the doc is telling me I'm anemic and have a severe protein deficiency. So I'll have to up the portion sizes of beans, peas, nuts, seeds, yogurt, eggs and even meat (which I haven't eaten in about 2 years). Might have to visit a nutritionist to get a specialized menu plan made up for my needs...
