Correct spelling of Tuckas

Yes I have nothing more important or pressing in my life at the moment other than to ask you kind hearted folks if any of you know the most correct way to spell the Hebrew or Yiddish word Tucas aka, tush or tushie as it's known in other areas. In another thread tuckas, tuchas, tukas, tookus, and some others were tossed around. I was wanting to open this up to all and see to what consensus we might arrive.

Thanks all,

Somehow, before I even opened this thread I knew this was you, buzzard !
Do you suppose this word is in the American Standard or Webster's Dictionary? I think it is spelled toosh or tush. However, I did not even know this word was Hebrew or Yiddish. Isnt the American language fascinating ?!

No. I am an American and I speak American. It is similar to English but not quite the same.

Buzzard, I would spell it "tuchus." However, the "ch" sound is not the English "ch," it is somewhere between an English "k" and clearing your throat. "Tush" is a different word, originally an expression of contempt, although I wouldn't be surprised if it had the same root. (Without looking it up, my guess would be an Old High German root, as Yiddish is a dialect of German and Old English owes a lot to German as well.)

link goes to a list of Yiddish loan-words to English, for those who are interested!
