Profile: Trying to get off the processed foods, eliminating MSG, nitrates, hydrogenated oils and fats from diet. Want to incorporate eating good carbs and fats and eating more whole, natural foods.

I am a 40 year old female engineer who has gained a lot of weight in the past few years. I am hoping to figure out a way to lose it and keep it off forever. Unfortunately, I am not a very good dieter.


21 yrs old; college student former varsity athlete; still very involved in athletics (coaching + administration) work out a lot: strength training/conditioning 4x a week; masters swimming ideally 4+ days a week; long bike ride to work! former binge eater. can't say am completely recovered. still have times when i eat mindlessly. better than before. but still struggling to eat well.


I am a full time graduate student (in health of all things!) and work with children. Work demands a lot of commuting and time in the car so meals must be prepared ahead of time or else I might end up at a drive thru! I live with great roomates/friends but one has an eating disoder which can be a negative influence on me (influencing my habits, thoughts). I exercise quite regularly and have tons of motivation, but sometimes I wait too long and am too hungry to do the workout I had intended to do(less intense). Thinking about food before the workout is over!
