EDEN Organic Aduki Beans Paseolus angularis are organically grown in nutrient rich vital soil on USA family farms committed to a clean environment and the most nutritious, delicious food. The beans are soaked overnight and cooked with purified water and a bit of kombu sea vegetable that softens and brings out their flavor. No salt added.
EDEN Organic Aduki Beans are a compact red bean, rich in color with pleasing texture and flavor. They adapt to any ethnic style, are great for red beans and rice and perfectly complement quinoa. Aduki are also known as azuki or adzuki beans are highly regarded in macrobiotics as a balancing and strengthening food.
Aduki beans are one of Japan's most popular beans. In 1974, Eden's President traveled to Asia and purchased a shipment of these small red beans at the direction of Noburo Muramoto. Shipped down the St. Lawrence River, half of the load was dropped off in Toronto and half at Detroit. These beans were used as seed for our growers and initiated the commercial cultivation of aduki beans in this hemisphere.
In 1999 EDEN Organic Beans received the highest ranking for the second time, in comparisons of brands by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) in their Nutrition Action Healthletter. Every flavor of EDEN Beans was recognized as having superior nutrition including fiber and sodium, and the authors gave a special mention to Eden's "delicious … healthy seasoned beans that you can eat straight out of the can." Again, in 2004 EDEN Organic Beans received the highest ranking for flavor and nourishment in an exhaustive comparison studies of canned beans in the Nutrition Action Healthletter, rating EDEN Organic Refried Beans as 'Best Buy' and number one for nutrition among 38 brands with salt added. CSPI's expert panel consistently praised EDEN's great flavor, high fiber, low fat, and low sodium. In 2004 our beans also rated favorites by Men's Health and Child magazines.
EDEN Organic Aduki Beans are delicious and nourishing because they're grown in living soil free of pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers for decades. Commercial canners put chemicals in with beans to harden the skins so that they won’t fall apart in the can as they cook. They also add a chemical to hold the color. Our organic beans contain none of these additives. Because of the vital soil that produces them, their much higher mineral content and stronger skins allow them to be cooked without need of processing chemicals, and their vibrant colors hold fast. Our cannery, Meridian Foods located in East central Indiana has a long standing reputation for putting out cooked canned beans of a better quality, fill and finish than any other cannery in the United States.
According to the FDA, "Diets low in sodium may reduce the risk of hypertension or high blood pressure, a disease associated with many factors." EDEN Organic Aduki Beans are very low in sodium with no salt added. Also, "Low fat diets rich in fiber-containing grain products, fruits, and vegetables may reduce the risk of some types of cancer, a disease associated with many factors." EDEN Organic Aduki beans are fat free and an excellent source of dietary fiber. They are also a good source of protein, iron, phosphorus, and magnesium.
Recently it was discovered that the same antioxidants found in fruit are present in bean skins. "Beans are probably the best human plant food there is," Dr. George L. Hosfield, the leading researcher and a plant breeder at Michigan State University a former researcher for the USDA's Sugarbeet and Bean Research Unit, told Reuters Health. He explained that beans are full of protein and fiber and low in fat. They also contain important vitamins and minerals. "With the additional bonus of their antioxidants, you have almost the perfect food," he said.
Beans are an important source of two essential amino acids not found in cereals, lysine and threonine. Whole grains complement beans and together deliver complete protein. A variety of beans in combination with whole grain is a good step toward healthy living.
EDEN Organic Aduki Beans are enjoyed in soups, dips, and spreads. Try them with a touch of ginger added, with vegetables or EDEN Chips, in our Aduki Ginger Dip in our web sites Free Recipe section, search under Aduki.
