Why You Need To Be Eating Lentils

Humans have been eating lentils for at least 15,000 years, going back to the Paleolithic area. They are one of the foods featured in the newly popular Paleo Diet.

Lentils are packed with protein and fiber. A cooked, one cup serving of lentils (red, green, brown) also contain a high amount of folate, as you can see on the label on this page. Folate is a critical nutrient early in pregnancy, and you want to get as much of the natural folate as possible, not the artificial version which is called folic acid.


Lentils are also very high in magnesium, which is a mineral associated with better heart health.

Additionally, lentils are very high in tryptophan which is a mineral that has been shown to help the body produce seratonin, which helps improve your mood and your sleep.

Can Lentils Help Lower Your Cholesterol?
