Description:

Dark Chocolate can be very good for you, but you need to get the right kind. Only chocolate bars with cocoa content of 60 percent or higher is rich in flavonoids, which are very very good for you.

There are 170 calories in 1 oz serving of 77% cocoa content dark chocolate, 6 grams of sugar, 13 grams of fat and 3 grams of protein.

There are 159 Calories in a 1 oz serving of dark chocolate mixed with almonds and sea salt. (A delicious combination.) Ironically there is less protein and more sugar with this version. 2 grams of protein and 11 grams of sugar.

The nutrition information for both these examples comes from a company called Chocolove, based in Boulder Colorado. You might be interested to know that the Chocolove Almonds and Sea Salt in Dark Chocolate is the single most popular item in the Pearl Street Whole Foods Market in Boulder.

There are a whole host of studies linking cocoa to better heart health, blood pressure, mood and help with environmental toxins.

Dark Chocolate even made Jonny Bowden's list of the worlds healthiest foods.

Most milk chocolate or commercial chocolate does not meet this standard. Most commercial chocolate (the stuff that Hershey's makes) is full of stuff that your body has a hard time processing.

Save your cheats for the good stuff! For those of you who are emotional eaters or night eaters, buy a small bar of very good dark chocolate and enjoy it!
