weight lifting for women exercises and advice

hi there! i'm new to peertrainer and i've lost a substantial amount of weight and gained it back twice now in my life - the pattern seems to coincide with boyfriends LOL. but i also noticed that the only kind of exercise i've ever done was aerobic - the first time i used the treadmill everyday, and the 2nd, i played DDR religiously. so after i signed up for this site, i started reading about weight lifting and the benefits of muscles and why it's so important and i really think that would help me right now. i need something new to focus on and i'm hoping this could help with the prevention of gaining it back this time around.

does anyone know any good websites (i'm looking for mostly free or cheap stuff) that have different weight lifting exercises or advice? i'm new to all this and i'm not sure what i'm doing besides the basic arm exercises with the hand weights. any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
