Tone vs Scale

Please share with me your workout schedule that allowed you to tone up your body while still seeing the fat melt away and that number on the scale drop. I have lost weight before and even though I was exercising I was skinny/fat. I did not have the tone and definition I want even though I was at my lowest weight since before having my first child 13 years ago. I do not want to be flabby and soft. I want to be toned and athletic looking but still fit in my skinny jeans (size 4) that I wore the last time I lost weight...HELP
