workout buddies...good or bad for you?!
I have a friend that I used to work out with RELIGIOUSLY! If I wasn't motivated, she was, and I was there to egg her on when she was feeling like bailing. At the time we had access to the same gym facilities as we worked together, and really enjoyed eachother's company on the treadmill, etc.
We are now working out with one another again. At first this was a real motivator as neither of us had been in a good routine and had both packed on the 40 pounds we had each lost previously. The issue is that we are now not using epuipment, and instead have taken out walks to the streets. While it's nice to be outside and again enjoy the company of my workout buddy, we are completely different physically. I am not seeing any benefit from the daily walks as they are not nearly vigorus enough for me and I don't break a sweat, while she is not able to maintain a faster pace and can't handle a larger distance.
In the coming months we will both have access to the same gym facilities again and will be able to enjoy each other's company and support while going at our own pace. In the meantime tho, I'm not making any progress on me ad don't want to lose the motivation I currently have.
Should I dump the partner who is holding me back and lose the most successful and motivating weightloss tool I've found? Or do I stick it out, enjoy our little walks, continue to motivate her and look forward to our gym experiences to come in the future?
