My butter keeps me motivated..

Years ago I read about the "1lb a week rule" that said it's practically impossible to lose more than a 1lb a week because 1lb of fat is 3500 calories and to shed 3500 calories means 500 a day and any more than 500 a day will slow your metabolism and effectively stop weight loss after a while.

Yes, that was a run-on sentence.

Anyway, it seems like the folks on the biggest loser have dispelled this rule by dedicating months of their lives to weight loss.

It also seems like now there's the "2lb a week rule" and people seem to think it's possible to create a deficit of 1000 calories a day to lose 2lbs a week.

Anyway, I went with the 1lb a week rule. That's my goal.

It doesn't sound like a lot when you have a lot to lose but here's how I keep myself motivated:

I go to the fridge and take out my tub of butter (a 1lb tub) and I hold it to my stomach (my problem area). And wow. All of a sudden 1lb seems like a lot.

I even took it a step further. A lb is 454g so 1lb a week is about 65g a day. I used my digital scales to weigh out 65g of butter and put it in a ziplock bag.

That way if on any given day I'm having trouble sticking to my daily goal of 500 calorie deficit when I go to the fridge to look for something to eat there's the slab of butter staring at me telling me I could lose that amount of fat today.

I'm actually thinking about carrying the zip lock bag around with me over christmas. :)
